    Hello

we have a very strange issue.

we needed to reinstall RDS locally on a windows 2016 server.

RDS created the following 2 system rules

port 445 SMB - open to all

port 3389 RDP - open to all

these rules are over riding our GPO rules where these ports are restricted - and no user has permissions to delete them even domain admins

this is obviously causing us some issues here. We are using RDS per user license to allow for X number of users to connect to RDP on this server

We have tried to remove these rules via GPO, locally on the server as domain admin, via powershell, etc. We simply cannot remove these rules

Has anyone seen this before? any ideas how/why RDS would even do this?

history - previously - this server was joined to azure AD and connected to the azure RDS platform. we decided this setup was not working for us and RDS app sessions were not reliable enough, and instead switched the server to our local domain and installed RDS licensing to use with RDP directly on the server. Everything is working perfectly fine, except that RDP and SMB are open to the world

    thanks in advance

    Andrew

  2. DPM 2016 Installation With Remote SQL Server

    Hi Guys

I'm trying to install DPM 2016 with a SQL 2014 Running on different Machine. I've created Firewall rules for necessary ports and Executables. But I'm stuck with one rule. Can someone help me how to Check the following rule? Thanks in advance

Set up firewall rules so that the DPM server can communicate with the SQL Server computer:

    • Make sure TCP/IP is enabled with default failure audit and enable password policy checking.

Windows Server 2019 RDS CAL for Windows Server 2016

I recently purchased Windows Server RDS CAL from Microsoft Online site.

When I purchased it I didn't know that it was for Windows Server 2019 and I have Windows Server 2016.

When I tried to install Windows RDS CAL for 2019 into Windows Server 2016 it shows the license is not recognized and couldn't install.

    My questions are:

    1. Can't Windows RDS CAL for 2019 be installed in Windows Server 2016?

    2. Is there any way to replace RDS CAL from 2019 to 2016 ver?

    3. Can I get a refund for this?

    Thank you in advance.

    Windows Firewall Forgetting Rules

I've recently installed the latest version of Windows 10 in my PC. I've blocked and allowed some softwares in Windows Firewall. But Firewall keeps forgetting the rules in 1/2 days. For example, I've allowed Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 in Firewall. But in a
few days, when I open the game, firewall sends message asking if I want to allow that app or not. Then after checking the allowed apps, I do not see that game in the list, which means firewall didn't remember the settings.

Also, I blocked KMPlayer in firewall to prevent it from connecting to internet (it shows too much ads otherwise). So, I created inbound and outbound rules for KMPlayer and blocked the connection. After that, it was all okay for two days, then again it started
showing ads, and then checking the rules, I didn't notice the rules there which I created two days ago. And this thing keeps happening. I make the inbound and outbound rules for KMPlayer, it stays all okay for a few days, and then it forgets again.

So, what is wrong with the firewall and what is the solution of it?
