Windows 10: After most recent forced download, I can't open downloaded Word files

Prior to this most recent update which I did not want, I was able to open up downloaded Word files. Now I can't. For some strange reason, I can print a downloaded file... but I can't open it. I am using Windows 10.... and my web browser is Opera. Anything you can do to help?

please help,

since a recent windows update, all pdf files opened in ms word, that is files on my hard drive as well as files downloaded from websites / the internet. internal files i got fixed by choosing acrobat dc as the default app to open .pdf files, however i am
unable to to force downloaded files to open in acrobat. i use google chrome as browser.

In the past year or so I've noticed another quirk where a downloaded Word document or other Office document won't open regardless of the steps I take to open them. After deleting the file and re-downloading the document it opens without issue. I've been using Chrome almost exclusively so I'm not sure if I've experienced this with Explorer or Firefox. So one last step to try might be to obtain another copy of your files if they are being generated and fetched externally to your system (ie. try downloading them again as the file might have simply been corrupted).

To assist you better, I would like to know what it exactly means “i am unable to to
force downloaded files to open in acrobat.” Are you trying to open the files from the browser or saved location.


I suggest you to follow the steps given below and check if it helps.

• Open Control Panel.
• On the Control Panel window, click the
  Programs category.
• Click on Default Program.
• Click on set your default programs.
• From the list of programs in the left of the Set Default Programs window, click to select the program that you want to set as default for the file type of your choice.
  
• Once selected, from the right pane, click the Set this program as default to automatically associate all supported file types with the selected program.
• You can click the Choose defaults for this program option to configure things more granularly.
• From the available list on the Set Program Associations window, check the checkboxes representing the file types that you want the selected program to open by default.
  
• Once you have made the required changes, click
  Save, close the opened Set Default Programs window, and start using your Windows 10 PC with the modified settings.
