So long story as short as possible, it started a couple days back when I had the 100% disk usage issue.

I initially identified AMD Radeon Software as the cause- looking for a folder on the drive that didn't exist. Simple fix, create the folder.

Next day I check Task Manager again, and disk usage still at a high (95%). I searched online for solutions, most of which were basic like stopping certain services and so-on, nothing drastic. However these did not help so the last solution was chkdsk. I cant remember which parameters I ran it with but it was the full pre-boot one with 5 stages. On stage 4 it was obvious that it was going to take hours, and as a Computing student I could not wait the estimated 12-24 hrs it said it would take. Following online advice, I waited until stage 4 settled before powering off.

Then Windows rebooted seemingly fine. Except it wasn't. All UWP apps failed (rest were fine). Basic operations like opening task manager or copying a file prompted UAC and certain tasks like accessing services.msc were blocked by UAC for my safety and I was then instructed to contact my admin (which is me).

Windows own troubleshooters wouldn't start and other tasks threw up access denied errors. Eventually I rebooted again, this time Windows suffered 3 consecutive BSOD'S for the reason:

NTFS FILE SYSTEM before the SSHD shut down and screen went blank. Panic set in but after multiple attempts, Automatic Repair ran and booted with all the problems gone. No high disk usage, no excessive admin prompts and UWP apps working again. All seems well.

My question: Despite Windows seemingly repairing itself and everything looking OK, should I consider reinstalling Windows? And due to the drive issues, what are the chances my drive is failing?

    Specs:

    Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3550H

    GPU: Radeon RX 560X

    SSHD: ST1000LX015-1U7172

    RAM: 8GB @ 2400Mhz, 1 slot free

Windows: Windows 10, 1909 with latest patches as of a couple of days ago

Note: I am typing this on the device in question - currently scared of restarting it.

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...

That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
    a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
    b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.

If you still have problems, please repost listing each specific step and saying which option from the tutorial you are using. Thanks.

Windows seems OK after serious problems. Should I reinstall?

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows seems OK after serious problems. Should I reinstall? :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
