  1. Installing the latest Windows 10 on an old Z77 gigabyte motherboard (from 2012)?

I've been holding onto windows 7 up till now, but I have to finally give up and make the upgrade. But as it says in the title, my board is quite old and I'm wondering if it will be able to handle it. I would rather not spend an extra 300$ on a new motherboard and everything that that requires.

I don't have an optical drive so I was thinking of getting myself win10 on USB, like here: https://www.amazon.ca/Windows-10-Professional-32-64bit/dp/B081TDW3QN/ But I checked on this site, and my board doesn't appear to be there. The closest to what I have that's on that list is the Z87. https://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/381/w10.html

My board is a Z77M-D3H-MVP. Is it too old that it won't recognize the USB stick if I try to use it to install Windows 10? I googled the board and found some forums where people mentioned they successfully installed it on Z77 motherboards, but they date back to 2017. I don't know if Windows 10 has changed signifcantly in that time.

  2. Windows 10 and Gigabyte

I have installed windows 10 on my Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard.
Now it takes longer to boot up between bios and windows My other pc which
has a newer gigabyte Z97X-Sli motherboard and boots very quick.
Do you think that the Z77 motherboard is incompatible with windows 10.
Can't find the answer on Gigabyte site

  3. Gigabyte motherboards and Windows 10

You request seems like a thinly veiled rant against Gigabyte.

Also your basic premise seems to be flawed (that because the hardware can support Windows 10, that if Gigabyte doesn't make work, Gigabyte is cheating you, no matter how old the motherboard is.)

Microsoft can state that XXX is the minimum requirements to run Windows 10.

But it is the minimum, not a guarantee that Windows 10 will work on that machine, or if it will run into problems or not. In a nutshell the hardware is only part of the picture, and the BIOS, and drivers and such are the rest.

If I have a 15 year old motherboard it might have all the specs needed to run Windows 10. But something that old you are not going to get new drivers. It just not economical for any manufacture to update drivers for something that old. Now it is very
possible that the old drivers might work just fine in Windows 10. Good you are lucky (and in fact most will be lucky).

So we come to "force obsolescence", to you that seems to mean that if it is possible, Gigabyte should make it work for you. Well from a manufacture's point of view you paid for product/service for a certain period of time that they have calculated into
price you paid for your motherboard vs how much it costs to make and support such. I have actually no idea of how many years that Gigabyte will update drivers for their motherboard, but I do know it is not infinite. And most likely if they are going to test
and fix drivers, they will start with their newest motherboards and as time goes on work backwards test/fixing older ones.

I notice that you request the spec's from other people's machines, but didn't do the same for yours.

And in the way you stated the question you neither want people to try to help you with your problem, or to use the information to buy a configuration that works.

For what its worth the machine I'm typing does have a Gigabyte motherboard in it, that frankly I really like. In fact I like it better than a similar Asus motherboard I have in another machines. Both machines upgraded with no real problems. I think there
was a license problem on one of the AMD tools I don't use, and later I even found an update for it. I did do clean installs of both of them, but that was mostly because of the fact on one of them I had the classic upgrade problem. As in there a ton of settings
that have to be transferred perfectly from one operating system to another, and doing so is extremely hard to do without any problems. Microsoft has got a lot better at it, but still problems can creep in, and they did on one machine. And I decided a clean
install was the better approach then try to weed out these settings/install kind of problems one at a time.

I have also run both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10 on this machine.

  4. Installing the latest Windows 10 on an old Z77 gigabyte motherboard (from 2012)?

    gigabyte Z370 HD3 + Samsung EVO 970 won't install Windows 10

    Newly assembled system:

    • Gigabyte Z370 HD3 V1.0 motherboard
    • Intel i7-8700 CPU
    • 2x DDR4-3200 16GB RAM (F4-3200C16D-32GVK)
    • Samsung EVO 970 500 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-V6E500)
    • Thermaltake TR2 S 500 W PSU (TRS-0500P-2)
    • Deepcool Tesseract case (seems doesn't matter)

    All components come new, unpacked.

Windows 10 Pro installation failed at the step "Getting files ready for installation." when about 70-80% complete.

I used both the original Windows 10 Pro DVD and a USB stick prepared by a Microsoft tool; the result is the same.

I tried to use the pre-installation SATA driver from the Gigabyte website.
Once I installed this driver at the step "Where do you want to install Windows", my M2 drive had disappeared from the list.

The same situation repeated with another set of components.

By the way, when I try the same set of components but with an ASUS Z370-P motherboard, there is no problem with Windows 10 installation.

I still need to assemble some systems with Gigabyte motherboards.

Update: It was easy to install Windows 10 on the SATA SSD. Same conditions: Gigabyte motherboard, but SATA SSD instead of M2 SSD.

Any suggestion what to do in order to install Window properly?
