Windows 10: Change Desktop icons from Sort by name to Sort by Item type

Discus and support Change Desktop icons from Sort by name to Sort by Item type in Windows 10 Customization to solve the problem; Can someone share with me the registry location of the Desktop icons Sort by?     Change Desktop icons from Sort by name to Sort by Item type


    Can someone share with me the registry location of the Desktop icons Sort by? I need to change it in our Default profile. Somehow I changed it to Sort by name and it's should be sort by Item Type before I did a copy profile. If you need additional information, let me know. Working on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 64 bit.

    Sort by name desktop shortcut?

    Is there a shortcut to sort the icons on the desktop by name? I don't like auto-arrange but i like them being sorted. Thanks!

    Sorting Desktop Icons

    Hi Wayne,

    It is possible that you're unable to sort desktop icons due to incorrect settings. To better isolate your concern, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes before this issue occur?
    • Have you tried booting up your computer in Safe Mode and check if the issue still persist?

    Sorting Desktop Icons

    I like to organize my desk top icons by groups and have been doing so for years. Now, after a reboot, all the icons are sorted by name and not by the groups I put them in. I'm defining a group as location on the desktop. I've read through similar questions
    and the consensus is to uncheck the auto arrange option on the view. I've done this several times but each reboot sorts by name again. What must I do to cancel the sort order after a re-boot. Thanks.
