Windows 10: File Explorer hanging when waking a drive - normal?

Discus and support File Explorer hanging when waking a drive - normal? in Windows 10 Performance & Maintenance to solve the problem; So, when I access an ext drive connected via USB, file explorer will randomly lock, is this normal?     File Explorer hanging when waking a drive - normal?


    So, when I access an ext drive connected via USB, file explorer will randomly lock, is this normal? The PC is unresponsive for up to 3 or 4 seconds. It's not the only time it hangs but it is always when file explorer is trying to do something. save a file, open a file, etc. It's not regular or predictable. Anyway, that's a larger issue, but the ext. HDD thing, any advice? Thanks.

    Sorry I got nothing more to suggest then.

    File explorer hanging is an image issue. So if you can't do a repair upgrade or reset your PC then you can contact microsoft support directly to see if they have further steps but I am sure they are going to tell the same thing i did.

    File Explorer hanging when waking a drive - normal?

    CD drive missing from File Explorer


    I'm trying to burn an audio CD yet the application doesn't recognise any CD drive. Checking further, the CD drive is not listed in File Explorer until a CD media is inserted that holds valid data. The drive disappears when the media is ejected.
    Under view options, the box is unticked for "hide empty drives".
    Under device manager the drive shows as present and working normally.
    I have tried switching autoplay on and off with no effect (suggested as a fix elsewhere).
    Any ideas?
