Windows 10: .XLSM file opened from Windows 10 Timeline opens in Excel Mobile!?!?!??!!?!?

Environment is Windows 10 Pro x64. Current with updates and feature updates.


I have Office365 Home Premium installed. Windows default for all Excel file types I just looked at says Excel not Excel Mobile. Nonetheless, all of a sudden my laptop has taken to opening Excel files in Excel Mobile when I select the from Timeline, not in The Real Thing. If I double click on the same file in File Explorer, it opens in in real Excel not Fisher Price Excel.


Why on earth would Windows Timeline do that? If I wanted to use the Fisher Price Excel, ... well, why would I want to do that anyway?

Why is Windows Timeline opening Excel files in Excel Mobile?!!!?

Windows Timeline on both my Windows 10 machines has taken to opening Excel files in Excel Mobile (Fisher Price Excel) rather than the fully licensed, installed, default for file type, Excel from Office 365 Home Premium.

The same file, opened by double click from File Explorer, opens in real Excel, not Fisher Price Excel.

Why is this? How do I stop it? It makes Timeline just another one of those Really Cool Features That Microsoft Wants Us All To Love But We Never Use It Because It's Just So Broken. (E.g., Live Tiles, Cortana, Windows Mail, etc.)

 

Win-10 FILE EXPLORER opens Excel .xls files but now, suddenly and uniquely, fails to open excel files with an .xlsm extension.

Hello all

For the last 3 months my new Win-10 FILE EXPLORER has opened both Excel.xls and Excel.xlsm files without a hitch.

Suddenly, several days ago, the FILE EXPLORER stopped opening Excel.xlsm
files while, surprisingly, continuing to open Excel.xls
files.

The FILE EXPLORER error during the failure to open .xlsm files is - “not responding”.

Importantly the difficulty in opening
.xlsm files is idiosyncratic to the FILE EXPLORER since when I navigate to the
.xlsm files using the Excel 2007 app they open without a hitch.

It appears that the file extension, and not the file content, is causing the .xlsm problem. This is because when make a new excel file (containing only a formula summing two numbers) and save it once as .xls and then again as .xlsm the FILE EXPLORER uniquely
fails to open the .xlsm file.

Despite the .xlsm designation neither of these files contains a macro.

The macro TRUST setting is the same for the two file formats.

Incidentally, I should note the the FILE EXPLORER "Rename" function also fails with Excel.xlsm files. The FILE EXPLORER works fine with Word, ppt and access applications.

It seems likely that some kind of Win-10 setting has been altered but that would be well beyond my pay grade.

Any help is deeply appreciated

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
