So, everyone asks the question, and I just got through page 2 google search, so yes this is a re-post but lets see if I can ask better.

When I plug in my Oculus Rift headset for a short jaunt into VR there is No Obvious Way to keep my default audio selected. Seeing as I use Voicemeeter this is an honest issue, as in 2 to 5 minutes of clicking and getting my audio to work in my headset and speakers again. I stream from time to time, Ill give up VR first to have great audio and mic.

Its Oculus, so no the headset Can Not stay plugged in 24/7, I even block the windows service itself from running. And each time I use it it switches default audio. It is Not drivers, it is Not my motherboard sound, it is Windows 10 Always switching default to whatever the newest USB audio device plugged in is, how do I Prevent This? If I fully disable Rift Audio in settings that also re sets next time I plug it in. If I could simply go into, lets call it Windows Services because I partially understand that, and set Default Audio Switch to New Devices to Manual and disallow Windows Itself from having the capability of switching? Yup, no wonder all answers lean to bad drivers, this is a hard one to ask...

Same exact issue with my Sennheiser GSP 350s, they are USB as well. If say I get the cable twisted and need to unplug the usb to unwind, when I plug it back in Windows switches from my default Voicemeeter out to a Sennheiser out...

Does this make sense? Google the issue, all the people asking since before 2015, but never an answer and they all just end.

Prevent Windows from changing default audio.... never thought That would be the first search I fail 100% on lol

Only asking here because of the two un-answered and just ending posts I just read. Ill delete if need be no worries, I been trying to get this to work for around 2 years now, sorry to spam a repost in an attempt to ask different.

**Crap, must add: Voicemeeter Does Not Change, it is just the Windows Audio Settings that changes, same thing happened before I started using VM, it would switch from my speakers to rift audio each time. Just think of voicemeeter as my physical speakers and it makes sense

  2. Permanently set default audio device

In the environment where I'm working we are working with flexible workplaces. We use laptops and connect them with dockingstations (Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock 40A70045EU) to an external monitor, keyboard, mouse and wired internetconnection. I want
to set my default playback device to the internal soundcard (Realtek high definition audio), but when connecting to the dockingstation using an USB-cable the default audio playback device changes to the audio device of the dockingstation. When the default
audio device is changed it will remember it for that particular dockingstation, but when connecting to a different one (for one that those setting haven't been applied yet) it changes it nonetheless. It's not difficult to change it, but it's annoying to do
it every time I connect to a dockingstation for which I haven't applied it yet. With a few hundred workplaces the chance of sitting at a desk for which it hasn't been changed yet is quite big.

Is there an method to change the default audio device to the internal soundcard permanently?

Is there a way to change it either with a script that runs at startup, a change in a registry-setting or maybe a GPO?

Stop Win 10 changing default audio device

    Hi

I have a Win 10 Pro PC with multiple audio devices, many are USB audio devices.

Every time I connect a USB audio device to the PC it becomes the default audio recording and playback device - I would like to change this behaviour so that the motherboard audio device is the permanent default recording and playback device and I can then
select other devices as needed within software apps.

    Can this be done?

    Thanks muchness!

    Permanently set default audio device

    Hi Joost,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you need assistance to set your internal sound card as the default playback device on your Windows 10 computer.

In this scenario it is required to disable the audio device of the docking station. Disabling the audio device for the docking station will enable the internal sound card. To do so,

    1. Right click on Volume icon on the taskbar > Open
      Sound settings.
    2. Click on Sound control panel option and click on
      Playback tab.
    3. Right click on the audio device for docking station and click on
      Disable.
    4. This results in enabling the playback device to internal sound card.

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to post your query in
    IT TechNet forums
, since the settings which needs to
be implemented on domain environment. We have dedicated team of experts who are equipped with the resources to suggest you with the further steps.
