  1. Forced to use Bing New Tab page on Edge Chromium?

    Hey all,

So this past month I recommended Edge Chromium to another person, and they finally got around to installing it on their MacBook Pro.

They loved nearly everything about it, including the nice touchbar integrations and such. (I'm a total Mac hater but its still good)

The only problem is that when they wanted to switch their New Tab page from the default Bing to the Google one, they couldn't. For me, it didn't matter because I use and love Bing, and Google never gave me relevant results. However, the one big deal is that even after setting Google as the default search engine, they force the user to use Bing if they search in the New Tab page. The only "real" way to change that is to use an Extension, there is no way to set Google.com or to cache the Google (or other search engines) New Tab pages.

While it doesn't affect me, it irks me because I believe in choices and freedom, which is why I like Windows and Linux for the most part. Sure, some things like Cortana are tightly integrated with Bing or Skype, and a lot of people choose to simply not use Cortana over that. But web browsing is an essential part of the lives of most computer users, and they should be able to experience as they choose to.

Chrome is not very good. But this one feature was removed when they brought in Edge Chromium, forcing the Bing New Tab on users. I never noticed as I switched from Google and other search engines to Bing long ago and had the Bing New Tab page up for years.

For now, I linked them to a random Chrome extension but the Edge team should really take into account the freedoms of the users if they want people to truly switch over and uninstall that Google spyware.

Bing Search Bar in Edge's New Tab page

This will also remove top sites. Is there a way to have the top sites but without the search bar as before?

Remove Bing from new Tabs in Edge

A recent update on Windows 10 (May 2018) has made Edge on my computer open Bing in any new Tab. (Previously new tabs in Edge opened in Google on my computer). How do I stop Bing opening, and get new pages in Google instead?
