  1. Credential Manager: Unknown App saved an account

I've been having some unrelated technical issues and stumbled upon Credential Manager. Under Web Credentials I have 2 saved passwords, Newgrounds from Internet Explorer which is fine and another that says it was saved by "Unknown App" followed by a string of numbers that I assume are an app ID but a quick Google search yields nothing. There's a URL for a Web address which is another string of letters as well as numbers and also comes up with nothing when searched.

There's a username for this account which is also a series of letters and numbers as well as a password for this account, which is too long to even load in a hover text box my laptop freezes as it loads and then gives up and closes the box. The password is also a random mix of letters, words and special characters.

I have no idea what this account could be. It doesn't seem to be affecting my laptop, but then again I wouldn't know if it was since I know nothing about it.

    617d0f6be026ec93d80c86b14d8e8b99

That's the "Web address URL" that's listed.

Is it just nothing? Should I just remove it from my credentials and be done with it? Or is it potentially serious?

    :)

  2. Windows Credentials Manager

4 people actually found that answer helpful?

Like the OP, I already know what Windows & Web credentials are. I have a credential showing:

    Website URL: GAIA_HDIDFV

    User name: GAIA_Identifier

    Roaming: yes

    Saved By: Unknown App (S-1-15-2-3847638010-[...]

    Password: [very long alpha. only]

Before I remove this credential, I wanted to know what it is and how it got here. I have some other credentials with less cryptic names that seem to be from previously uninstalled apps.

These are probably all harmless, but I think I'll remove all credentials from unknown apps or for invalid URLs. Is there any other tool to manage credentials? This would be much easier if it could:

    1. list all credentials as table

    2. filter & sort on fields

    3. select multiple records (credentials)

    4. delete selected credentials

    5. copy selected fields/records, export records/table as file

Credentials manager-web credentials added by unknown apps

I'll do my best to be clear since there are 2 columns and neither has a heading. LEFT and RIGHT. I am on WEB CREDENTIALS. LEFT=REGISTRATION RIGHT=.TOKEN.0. LEFT=SKYPE RIGHT=.TOKEN.0. LEFT=SKYPE RIGHT=.TOKEN.1. Each of the 3 were shown as being
saved by unknown aps. What is this all about please? When and how would also be helpful. Is this FAMILY being paranoid, or not? We have never KNOWINGLY used Skype. Thank you.

    Hi Ross,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern. I will do my best to fix the issue.

Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below methods.

    Method 1.

I recommend you to run system maintenance troubleshooter and check if this helps.

    • Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

    • Type Troubleshooting on the search bar on the Control Panel.

    • Click on view all and click on
      System maintenance.

    • Click on Advanced on the System maintenance dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

    • Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
    Method2.

If that does not help, I suggest you to delete unknown credential one by one run a virus scan (Microsoft Safety Scanner).

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    Method 3.

If you are using Internet Explorer I suggest you clear your browser's cache and temporary internet files to make sure that they are not causing your issue. This is often caused by a corrupted file in the browser. Please clear your browser's cookies
