Windows 10: Reboot loop after failed windows update.

My PC started an automatic update recently but it failed half way through and now it won't start up. After the windows logo appears the dots appear underneath and cycle for some time afterwards the screen goes blank then two screens reading 'attempting to recover your installation' and 'undoing changes made to your computer' flash up really quickly then the cycle starts again. I haven't been able to access the windows RE by restarting 3 times. I tried to boot from a USB and used the repair your computer advanced options. Star-up repair failed as did uninstall updates and system recovery. I can re-image to an image from late last year but I was worried about how many of my personal files I would lose. I haven't tried reinstalling drivers either because I think I would need second USB stick for this, is this correct?

In summary im just not really sure what the best course of action is, I don't really want to lose all of my stuff because im not even really sure what's on my main drive. I'm not sure how up to date my drivers are or which windows update I was previously using but I know it's old because windows kept hassling me to update and tired a couple times but it failed every time although not quite as catastrophically as this.

As the title says, my nephews PC is stuck in the Reboot "failed to configure updates" loop. Safe mode DOESNT help, it just keeps looping. anyone have a Solution for this?

• Have you checked if the hard disk is set as first boot device in the BIOS?
• Which version of Windows is installed on the computer?

Disable the anti virus. I had a couple of computers do the same thing. I disabled the anti virus and it went ahead and did the updates.
