Windows 10: HDMI output from PC no longer works?

I run a dual display setup: primary monitor is connected via DP and second via HDMI. Everything has been working fine for an entire year until last week. My second monitor suddenly could no longer be detected. The screen says "No signal" and my display settings on Windows only shows one monitor. I have tried updating my graphics driver, rolling back to an old version of graphics driver, several different HDMI cables, removing and reinstalling video card... I even bought a new video card upgraded from NVidia GTX 1070 to RTX 2060 and even THAT didn't work. The second monitor works fine with other devices as do all the HDMI cables I tested. I tried connecting my primary display via HDMI instead of DP and I actually see the boot screens and windows loading logo, but when the windows login screen is supposed to come up, all I see is black. Please help.

Have you tried to reconfigure your audio settings? If not, try to change your audio output settings to HDMI by following the steps below:

• Press Windows ( ) key + X.
• Select Control Panel.
• Click Hardware & Sound.
• Click Manage Audio Devices.
• Select the HDMI device listed under the Playback tab.
• Click Set as default and click Ok.

Also, we suggest to update your audio driver.

Let us know how it goes.

 

HDMI output appears inactive


I have a new HP all-in-one "desktop", added second monitor about 3 weeks ago, worked for about a week and then second monitor went blank. Called HP, they walked me thru a "fix" which worked. A week later, same thing. I did their fix and it worked a second time. Happened again this week, fix no longer works. Monitor is good, cables are good, I'm thinking the HDMI output is bad but don't know how to check. Should it show up in device manager as a separate entry under display output? or is it just part of the display output and not listed separately. I don't have another HDMI device to check the output other than the second monitor.

I have used second monitors for 20 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened. HP tech support has NOT been helpful, even tho the PC is under warranty.

To have a better understanding of the issue, please help us with the following information:

1. Are you trying to output Audio via HDMI/headset or to a speaker/headset connect to your HDMI device?
   

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to update the audio driver and set HDMI Device
as default device.
