Windows 10: File explorer not opening from start menu (repost)

REPOST, ORIGINAL HERE

I recently changed my Windows 10 theme and now I can't open folders in file explorer from the start menu. It works fine with apps but it just doesn't work with folders. I tried restarting and it still doesn't work. I tried searching for solutions but they were only for if it didn't work on the taskbar. Any assistance would be appreciated.

EDIT (from original): It's fixed now, I kinda screwed up with my new theme. If this happens to anyone, you now know its the theme.

EDIT 2 (from original): It's unfixed now. I have no clue why, I didn't touch the theme since then. Something funny that I noticed is that it is the second suggestion when you type it when normally it is the first.

Inability to open file explorer from start menu


I am not able to open the file explorer through the option on the start menu, or by clicking on the file explorer pinned to the task bar. When I click the pinned file explorer the window that pops up says "Windows cannot find ''. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I am able to navigate through to my files by going to the start menu file explorer's jump list (clicking the arrow to the right of the file explorer option on the start menu). All of these issues began after I had been messing around with custom themes. I ran UltraUXThemePatcher_3.0.4 and then I changed the following files (themeui.dll,uxinit.dll, and uxtheme.dll). Next, I ran a registry editor file that made it so I can take ownership via right click. I also followed these steps in this article: [Windows 10 Tip] Remove Icons from Navigation Pane of This PC - AskVG
up to the end of "Part 2: Remove Quick Access Icon From Navigation Pane of This PC".
The last thing I did was install a custom icon pack.

I just submitted this suggestion on Windows Uservoice:

The idea: the right-click menu for folders in File Explorer has an option called 'Open in new window', which opens that folder in a new File Explorer window. Very useful for copying and moving things, and opening destination folders without accessing the start menu a second time.

That feature has been in Explorer since at least Windows 7...
