    Windows File Assignment


    I cannot understand the logic used for file location assignment used by Windows. There always seems to be 2 or 3 places a given file might land when saved. Is there a tutorial or document or something one can use to learn how to understand and manage this?

    help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

    Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.

    assign .raw files to Adobe Photoshop

    We open .raw files in Photoshop. This is not one of the choices in the list of file assignments on Windows 10. How do we fix this?

    I have just updated my PC's to windows 10

    Hi Hugh,

    In your first PC, you have mentioned that your disc drive is not recognized in File Explorer but is displayed in the Device Manager. This could occur if a drive letter is not assigned to the CD/DVD drive. I would suggest you to try assigning a drive letter
    to the disc drive and then check if it is displayed in the File Explorer. Press Windows key + X, click on 'Disk management' and then check if the disk drive is listed. If it is listed without a drive letter, right click on the drive and select 'Change drive
    letter and paths'. Click on 'Add' and then assign a drive letter that is not assigned for any other drives. Now, open File Explorer and check if the drive is listed.

    In your second PC, you have mentioned that there is no sound. In this case, I would suggest you to try the steps suggested in this article and check:
