Windows 10: Performance instability in online games after new CPU & Mobo upgrade.

I recently had Geek Squad upgrade my PC with a new Motherboard, CPU, Ram. (x570 gaming edge wifi, ryzen 7 3800x) All drivers are up to date and fresh windows install. My computer stays connected to the internet fine. I am using an ethernet connection.

I Just had Comcast over this past week for an inspection and brand new modem, and they tell me everything looks fine. The internet speeds are at 550-600 mbps download, and 17-18 mbps upload. Every other device in my home works fine on this internet connection.

The problems come in online multiplayer games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex, etc. I can play just fine for a few moments or couple minutes, then a few moments or couple minutes of lagging, and this cycle repeats. Some games have dedicated symbols for when its a connection issue which appears for me.

I played these same games before the upgrade and even though the FPS values were lower, the connection was stable and I could play without this issue.

Changing my MOBO and CPU a

I'm doing PC upgrades and changes entirely for my new mini-itx build.

I'm not sure about how the process would work, but what are the appropriate steps I need to undertake before making my changes?

• My personal data and files are backed up to my Onedrive, and have nothing to lose in terms of data.
• I have an additional copy of Windows 10 (but would prefer not to use it in-case I do another PC build).
• My MOBO and CPU upgrades are polar opposites of my current hardware:
  • OLD HARDWARE
    • Intel i5 6500
    • AsRock Killer MOBO
  • New Hardware
    
  • • AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
    • Asus Strix X-470

This is my first time doing a particular change so guiding steps would be greatly appreciated! Things like how to wipe my hard-drive and reinstall Windows, etc.

You will have to buy windows license if you change the motherboard, unless you made the computer originally in the first place, or bought a license key.

 

Upgrading mobo and cpu

Thanks Brian, the issue I have is that it was a free upgrade from win7 and not preinstalled therefore not strictly an OEM licence. The second issue is that current mobo being am3 and new mobo being fm2+ are both derivatives of the same architecture So
will it class as a new pc. If so am I better copying HD to external HD so that when I reboot I would only have to redownload files embedded in ms for games such as bf1?
