Windows 10: Mail app not sending email when creating a conversation to a pop3 server

I use the Windows 10 mail app linked to a student messaging server called Zimbra pop3 server.

For some reason, I cannot send new mail by using the new message option. When clicking on send, the mail just disappear, doesn't appear in the list of sent message both on the server and in the app.

However, I can reply to existent message and then the mail will be sent correctly.

I found out I just lost severals important mails because of this.


Is there something that needs to be done or am I good to drop this broken app for good ?

If your eMail client has Requires authentication, select it
Most servers use Clear text authentication - do not change that unless your provider gave you instructions to set it up.

 

Is it possible to create an account to *just* send email with Windows 10 mail?

I'm trying to use Windows 10 mail to send email through my own personal SMTP server. I don't use pop3 or imap, I just deliver my mail to a local maildir.

However, the Mail client won't let me do anything without "signing in" which is stupid. I tried using "example.com" as the account, but it wouldn't actually send my emails at all, and I couldn't find a setting to "send email now".

I was able to scroll down to "Advanced Setup" and use "Internet email account". If I use these settings:

Do I have to create a fake POP/IMAP server to get this app to believe me that I don't actually want to receive email here? Or is there some kind of hidden setting I can use?

When I configured these settings and tried to send a message, nothing happened. It stuck the files in my outbox and that was it. No error message no nothing. As far as I can tell, it was waiting to connect to the IMAP/POP server before it would try to send my email.

 

Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts


I use Outlook 2016 for all my email requirements.

One BTinternet.com email address
One Outlook.com email address

Previously had above two email accounts sending and receiving from the same PST file each using POP3.

Wanted to change the Outlook.com to IMAP with my understanding being that this would then sync both ways with the web-mail for Outlook.com.

Deleted the old POP3 account settings for the Outlook.com email address and then went through the process of setting up again using the automatic configuration rather than the "manually configure" thinking this would automatically use IMAP. (Left settings unchanged for the POP3 BTinternet.com email address).

To my surprise the Outlook.com email address was not setup as an IMAP but as an Exchange Server.

Initially thought this would be ok as this would also sync both ways with web-mail. Soon discovered however that any email coming in to my still remaining BTinternet POP3 email address was also arriving into the Outlook.com Inbox.

Why is this happening and what do I have to do to still keep the POP3 email separate from the Exchange Server email each using their own Inbox? (Both Inbox's are listed in the left hand panel of Outlook 2016).
