  1. Help me set up a general development tool stack on my Windows 10 box

I'm doing development of all kinds, web development using the LAMP stack and node.js, cross-platform development with C++ and FLTK as well as with wxPython and pyinstaller and occasional experiments in Machine Learning using TensorFlow. And I'm sure next week I'll venture into some new technologies.

I've used Windows from 3.1 to Windows 7 on my desktop and done some Linux administration on servers. Then the last ten years I nearly exclusively worked on a Mac. Now I want to switch back to Windows, at least partially, as I'm doing a lot of cross-platform development. On macOS, I'm using a combination of Homebrew and Miniconda and I use the shell (Bash) a lot.

Having missed the last ten years of setting up development tools on Windows, I'm kind of lost. Of course, I could set up all needed tools by themself, but I'm afraid this ends up in a nightmare regarding version management and updates. Right now, I've installed Miniconda for my Python work and MinGW for C++ development. Both work great, but to use the conda environment I have to open the (Windows-based) Anaconda prompt. For MinGW however, I have to use the (bash based) MSYS2 prompt. Switching from the Windows to the Bash prompt is rather annoying.

The next thing I need is a web dev environment containing Apache, PHP, and node.js. If I install XAMPP and node.js by itself, that should be sufficient. But is this really the best approach? I also considered Chocolatey as a Homebrew replacement, but the installation instructions with bypassing the execution policy don't look too convincing. Of course, I played around with WSL, but it also did not look like a solution to me. Perhaps I should have looked longer.

    tl;dr

What's the recommended approach to do all kinds of development on Windows 10 without drowning in a sea of version management turmoil?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. Change search box settings windows 10

    > Is there any way to change the Windows search box, to right of address bar, settings for Windows 10? It no longer spell checks and no longer does a general word nor phrase search properly. The search results are always we could not find it. If the
search box gives an extremely short list of suggestions, then when the suggestion is clicked the response is again, we could not find what you are looking for.

    - - - -

That search box uses your default search provider. Are you generally unhappy with that search provider? Have you tried others?

    Disable F12 Developer Tools

F12 Developer tools has made my internet browser (all) unusable. Entering data is one key at a time interspersed with closing the DT. I have the Home Edition of Windows 10 and have all the updates, tried opening IE, going to gears and F12 DT is listed
but there is no way to UNCHECK it as was suggested in an earlier blog. Please tell me how to get rid of the F12 Developer tools or at least disable. I am writing this on my MAC because the F12 DT kept popping up when I tried to input this on my Windows 10
    desktop. HELP
