Stuck in command prompt loop of advanced recovery

    Hello All,

I tried to boot in safe mode.

    At login screen

    1. Power -> Shift+restart

    2. Troubleshoot

    3. Advanced options

    4. here i was supposed to select STARTUP SETTINGS, but i selected COMMAND PROMPT by mistake.

Now it is asking for an admin account password ad password involves a special character "@" which is not being considered when i press shift+2..

I tried to restart the advanced options by crashing the OS 3 times while booting. Once when the automatic recovery tool pops up, it reboots to the COMMAND PROMPT option.. This is a loop now. Anyone can help me get out of it?

    :)

  2. stuck in recovery

    Hi Alexander,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that your computer is stuck in Automatic repair loop. In this case, I would suggest you to try the following methods:

Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer except essential devices like keyboard and mouse and then boot the computer and check. Sometimes, issues with external devices could cause issues with Windows startup. If the issue still persists,
    try the following methods.

Method 1: Run SFC/SCANNOW command in Windows 10:

    • Left click on Start button.

    • Right click on Command Prompt (Admin) option which will let you run
      'Run as administrator’.

    • Command Prompt Window pops up.

    • Type: SFC /SCANNOW and hit Enter.

You can also follow the link below for reference:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Try the following steps to run DISM scan to check and restore system file corruption:

    • Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.

    • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

      DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

      DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the PC.

Method 2: If the above steps didn’t fix the issue, then I would suggest you to perform a system restore to an earlier date prior to this issue. Refer to these steps to perform a system restore from within the Windows recovery
    environment:

    • When you enter the blue screen with advanced options (Windows recovery environment), click on ‘Troubleshoot’.
    • Now, click on ‘Advanced options’ and then click on ‘System Restore’.
    • Follow the prompts and choose a restore point created before this issue started.

Please let us know how it goes. We will be happy to assist you further.

    Thank you.

How does Windows boot to advanced recovery option e.g. command prompt?

    I have questions for you:
    1. if you open admin command, copy and paste: reagentc /boottore&shutdown /r /f /t 00
Does it boot into recovery ?
    2. Is the disk layout still look like the screen you posted in the other thread with 2 recovery partitions (450MB and 480MB)?

According to suggestions from the thread, you changed from partitiion 5 to partition 1 with reagentc, which in my opinion is not correct. When you upgrade, windows creates an extra 450MB after C: and put a new Winre.wim there and set it to partition 5 (counting from left to right)

  4. Stuck in command prompt loop of advanced recovery

    Stuck in Command Prompt

    Hi,

I wanted to run this command 'bootrec /fixmbr'

    I did the follwing steps:

Choose a option - Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Command Prompt

I did all the steps until Command Prompt, at Command Prompt I got this error message “ You need to sign in as…….but there aren’t any administrator account on this pc”. The laptop is stuck at this step. I restarted it a few times and it turned on in command
    prompt.

I found this on Microsoft community but for me it didn't work. I did the first step and it turned on directly in command prompt.

    Follow the below steps:-

    1) Press Shift and Restart from the power icon (together)

    2) Select Troubleshoot.

    3) Go to Advanced Options.

    4) Select Command Prompt.

    5) Type "net user Administrator /active:yes"

    6) Hit Enter.

How can I fix this in order to use my laptop?

    Thank you,
