  1. Does compression make the amount of free space available on a drive a lie?

Ever since I started compressing games on my SSD it feels like the free space shown isn't actually free.

For example on my SSD I have 92.9 GB free, but when I try to copy over a 70GB game from my other drive, 40 GB in, it says there's not enough space.

  2. Files in C: drive automatically compressing?

As you may already know, if this feature is on, every new folder/file you add starts off automatically compressed. If you would like to turn it off for the whole drive, kindly follow these steps:

    • Start File Explorer . In the left pane, right-click on the drive that you would not want to be compressed.
    • Click Properties.
    • Make sure that the Compress this drive to save disk space box is unchecked.
    • Click OK then Apply.

Is "compress OS Drive" worth it on SSD?

My SSD is running out of disk space, and I see that "Compress your OS drive" is suggested as a means to save some disk space.

    My questions:

    1. I'm not sure whether there are any performance penalty associating with compressing the OS drive.
    2. And I'm not even sure whether this option is the same with "Compress this drive to save disk space" at the C drive property as per below. This option does seem to come with performance penalty.
