Windows 10: can't create recovery disk

My Dell XPS 13 9300, Win10 Pro x64, five hours out of the carton, all updates installed, fails while writing the recovery disk to a 16GB USB flash drive. "A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive." It also leaves the drive in an odd state with no partition or reporting not formatted. Have tried two different--but same brand/model SanDisk 16GB USB3 Ultra Fit--disks. Have tried in both USB-C ports and with three different USC-C to A dongles. Then, for laughs, I tried it in my Intel NUC6i7KYK. Also Win10 Pro x64, updates current. I was shocked that I got the same end result. Maybe something in Windows is broken?


Any suggestions?

• Type “Recovery” in search box and press Enter.
• Select the option to create a recovery disc and follow the prompts to create a recovery disc.

How To: Create recovery partition.

it worked when i copied all the files of the disk to the recovery partition i created, but i had to use WinPE tab to add the entry.

Type: WIM Image (Ramdisk)
Name: Recovery
Path: Z:\Sources\boot.wim
and hit Add Entry
I tried it in VirtualBox and it worked.
At first, it would add a second "Windows 7" entry to the list, but when the installation is finished, the old one is deleted. (I formatted only C: partition)
