My Laptop can't see my wifi network

I have a very frustrating one.

I had a problem with my wireless Router, so I bought a new one different model, I figured while I was spending the money I'd get a Wifi6 router so hopefully I'll be good for a good long while

I installed it, and have it online. My old Router was named actual names changed to protect the innocent ABC and ABC-5G.

I wanted to keep my network name, so when I got the new router, before placing it online, I went into the settings where the network name was Netgear72 and Netgear72-5G or whatever...some number assigned by Netgear. I changed those names to exactly ABC just like my old dead router. I also changed the password so that it matched the same password as my old one. The idea was, I wanted all the devices in the house to still be able to connect using the same network and the same password.

It worked like a champ...kind of. I have lots of different devices in the house, Roku, Dish Network, my wifes laptop, a little netgear extender downstairs, my iPhone, my wifes Android phone, my Canon wifi printer. All and I mean ALL the various equipment in the house can see the new ABC...that is... Except for my main WIndows10 laptop! For some crazy reason, this laptop does not see either ABC nor does it see ABC-5G. It's just not there...gone....poof. WTH? My laptop wifi is obviously working because it shows a long long list of available networks that I can see around the neighborhood, but no ABC and no ABC-5G. My laptop is literally just 7 feet away.

Yes, before anyone asks...I can connect with a network cable...that works fine.

I have done both a hard reboot and soft reboot of windows.

I have also gone into my settings, network -> wifi -> manage known wifi networks...and I scrolled down to find ABC and ABC-5G, they are there...so I pressed [Forget Network] on both. I'm thinking maybe Windows is comparing the new ABC to the old ABC and thinks it doing me a favor by hiding what it thinks might be a spoof vampire something fake network. So I forgot the old ABC, but nope...that didn't help.

I know this router is working just fine. And there's absolutely no reason to think there's anything suddenly wrong with my laptop wifi, it can see and connect to other wifi networks I tried and it connects to the little extender downstairs that has 1 bar of signal. It's just that for some bizarro reason it refuses to see the brand new ABC and connect via wifi.

The laptop is a pretty modern Windows 10 system. It's all up to date as far as updates and security patches as of April-2020 here as I write this. I'm running standard MS Windows protection and security...no third party stuff that might be playing games here. It's a name brand system, ASUS, nothing too far out there. The wifi adapter is a: "IntelR Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265" running with all default settings. The advanced hardware properties shows it's running in wireless mode: 6. 802.11a/b/g, and I've not changed any of those properties.

Anyone have a clue how to give my wifi list a good enema and flush this darn thing out? Or any other ideas? I'm ready to bonk my head against the wall here, it should work...but it's not and I can't for the life of me figure out why :

    :)

Windows 10 wifi not turning on Acer Aspire laptop

In order to get the list of available wireless networks, you have to:

    1. Switch on Connect to suggested open hotspots (see the screenshot in question);
    2. Click on Wifi icon in the right corner. Now you have your networks back.

After that the parameter from Step 1 can be turned off, networks will be listed normally after restarting Wifi.

P.S. I feel rather stupid at the moment. I thought that open hotspots are passwordless hotspots and so are presumably not very safe. So of course I've turned that off during installation.
Really hard to see any logic in this case.

  3. Laptop won't show list of available networks

We suggest checking the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your laptop.

    Please follow these steps:

    • Click the Windows logo.
    • Go to Settings (gear icon).
    • Select Network and Internet.
    • Then Wi-Fi.
    • Make sure the Wi-Fi radio button is On.
    • Select Show available networks, then you'll be able to see the list of available Wi-Fi networks.

Recover a forgotten wifi network on windows 10

I unintentionally deleted a wifi network on my laptop. Now is does not appear in the list of available wifi networks. I know I am in range as I'm connected to that network on my phone. I know my wifi is working on my laptop as I can connect to all the
    other wifi networks that appear.

I know they SHOULD resync, but this one does not.

Please don't suggest a restore or recover as the only option.

    thanks,

    Mike
