Too many partitions on my C drive

    Folks,

Lately I've been getting an explorer error message on startup or reboot.

    It looks like this:

Too many partitions on my C drive [IMG]

Upon digging, it seems to be calling itself "I" (the letter i). I never created it. (That I know of.)

Opening up Macrium, it shows my SSD (my OS drive) to look like this:

Too many partitions on my C drive [IMG]

There it is. Letter I, is identified by Macrium as being the 2nd partition on my "GPT Disk 2" (which is my OS drive).

I never tried to create a logical partition. I like my drives to be single partition only. I understand that Macrium will show the partition table and then the main partition.

This drive looks like a mess.

The 23.29 GB unallocated space is overprovision drive space (per the Samsung Magician). I'm okay with that.

1a. Why do I have 2 "NTFS Primary" partitions? (They are number 1 and 5.)
1b. Can I delete or combine them into one?

    2. Partition 3 is "Unformatted Primary", but filled to 16MB. What should I do with that?

    3. The OS partition, 4, "OS (CToo many partitions on my C drive :)" is in the middle of the image: should it be located elsewhere?

    4. The pesky "No Name (IToo many partitions on my C drive :)": it's a FAT32 on a GPT disk with two NTFS Primaries. Nuke it somehow?

Here's a Macrium picture of the C drive of a different machine:

Too many partitions on my C drive [IMG]

It, too, is a Samsung SSD. Notice how clean it is? (Not sure why it's an MBR instead of GPT. I'll change that later....) The first partition is the C drive. There is just one NTFS Primary. That is what I'd expect my problem drive to look like.

    *****

My machine is a Windows 10 Home. Version 1909. OS build 18363.752

    Thanks for any help.

    Ken

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

    Unallocated Space to C Drive

    Hi Travis,

It appears that a disk partition was created but was never assigned its allocation. Assuming there are no files stored in the unallocated partition, perform these steps to combine it with your C: drive:

    • In Disk Management, right-click on (CToo many partitions on my C drive :) which appears next to the
      Unallocated partition.
    • Select Extend.

Let us know if you're able to combine the spaces after following the steps above.

    Regards.
