  1. Dell Venue 8 tablet running Windows 10 will not boot after failed update

    Help!

Several months ago Windows 10 did a major update, my Dell Venue 8 did not have enough internal storage to accommodate the update so I had to resort to removable media thumb drive in order for the update to download. During the update process the battery in the tablet died, when I tried to restart it after charging it would not boot into Windows at all, the screen said "Something Went Wrong" it directed me to re-insert the removable media which was already in place, apparently, the thumb drive had also become corrupted, it would not even read in my desktop PC.

I created a fresh install on another thumb drive, I can get the tablet to boot off of the thumb drive with the Windows 10 installation files on it but it will not let me do a fresh install from there because the system was booted from the removable media. I can get into the advanced recovery options from there but it will not allow me to do anything Rollback, Restore, Remove update nothing works. This whole process is made even more difficult since there is no keyboard so you cannot just press F11 to get other options.

Is my Dell tablet now destined to forever be a paperweight? Is there any hope?

    Help!

    :)

You don't need to do all that BIOS booting to disable secure/fast boot/TPM, just go to system info, and turn off bitlocker. That is it.

You don't need that recovery partition for the 5830 in win10. But if you do what I suggest (create PC image) you will preserve it.

On the 5830 win10 tablet booting into RE works fine. It functions differently that win8.1 RE. It will create another recovery partition that you can boot into and use to reinstall/recover/advanced WITHOUT Having to create a USB recovery drive. (on the 3845 upgrade you have to keep the recovery partition intact, and even though you can delete it after the win10 upgrade, deleting it breaks the ability to boot into and use RE, forcing the use of a USB recovery drive. Though it is possible that deleting the recovery partition, then reinstalling Win10 may resolve this)

TPM is were the encryption/bitlocker key is stored.

You need to do three things:
    1. Backup
    2. Remove hidden recovery partition
    3. Install win10 off USB thumbdrive

Create a pc Image using windows, create your recovery drive, copy the recovery partition to it, then delete the partition off tablet.

Right click start control panel/system and security/file history

Turn off bitlocker, then reinstall windows from recovery drive (this is to remove any corruption that may be causing upgrade to fail), then attach the win10 USB thumbdrive, navigate to the "setup" on thumbdrive, and run it. Set tablet to "never" sleep or turn off screen, follow installation prompts. Upgrade takes approx. an hour. Be sure battery is fully charged. During win10 upgrade, be sure to check for updates.

To turn off bitlocker, pull up charms (right screen swipe), settings/PC info (device encryption setting at bottom):

    [FS][US]   Dell Venue 8 Pro 64gb Windows 8 Tablet

    Sold

Up for sale is a refurb Venue 8 Pro that is essentially in like new condition, I originally paid $234 after coupons and taxes when there were various condition tablets on sale and the higher price tag on this one shows. No major dings, scratches, defects visible and has been well cared for since purchase. It's been an excellent machine for browsing and media away from the office with great battery life. I've reverted to a previous unlocked bios that allows for faster internal memory read/writes as seen here: Venue 8 Pro Owner's Lounge

Also included is a Poetic Case: Poetic Slimline Case for Dell Venue 8 Pro Black (3 Years Manufacturer Warranty from Poetic):Amazon:Computers & Accessories

And a micro usb to usb adapter to allow use of flash drives and peripherals: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H8R7E4I/?tag=tec06d-20

I've had it for roughly two and a half weeks but some unexpected car expenses came up and I'd like to have a bit of cash back in my pocket.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me. I guess I took half the pictures upside down too, sorry about that *Stick Out Tongue Dell Venue 8 tablet running Windows 10 will not boot after failed update :p
