Windows 10: Download Speed Very Slow on One Surface Device, but Download Speed fine on every other...

I have a Surface tablet/laptop that I had for school work 3-4 years ago, and that I have used on and off for the last two years. I started using it again recently and have been faced with exceptionally slow download speeds, far lower than any other device on the network. My receiving speed is hovering somewhere between 8-10kbs with peaks of up to 3mbs for a millisecond before dropping back down to 0kbs. Nothing is drawing particularly large amounts on the network tab of the resource monitor. I am currently trying to download Microsoft teams 93.2MB file, 35 minute remaining but the resource monitor shows that edge is only receiving around 300b/s and sending around 180b/s.


My speedtest results on the device in question is 16ms ping, 0.45mbs download, 0.14 upload


In comparison:

My desktop pc wired ethernet 21ms ping, 16Mbps download, 6.07 upload

My iPad 16ms ping, 17.27Mbs download, 6.75 upload


Any help with how to sort out this situation would be greatly appreciated

• I would suggest you to test the speed using any of the speed test website or app to confirm the upload and download speed.
• I also suggest you to reset the wireless router to check if that helps.
  
• You may plug in the Ethernet cable if available and check the speed.

Slow downloading speed

Are you on a laptop or a desktop?

Is the computer plugged in to charger when downloading? (laptop)

The download speed has as much to do with the website server where you are downloading a file from as it does with your internet connection speed.



You can have a very fast internet connection, but experience very slow download speeds if the website has a slow server. This could be caused by very heavy traffic on that server or it may just be a slow server.



One thing you can do to check is to go to the following website and check your speed.

Speedtest.net:

Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Try several different test websites there to see the different download/upload speeds.

Compare the results with the website where you are seeing the slow downloads.
