Windows 10: troubleshooting my mic broke it.

my mic has always been quiet and when talking with my friends my voice has always been quiet for them. i turned the gain and boost all the way to the max but that didn't even help. i don't really know what troubleshoot means but i saw it with the audio and decided to give it a go to see if it fixed it. i clicked it but then notice my mic was constantly making sound in discord, i turned it so i could hear my mic and all i could hear was extremely loud static. i went to control panel and turned the gain and boost back down and now it wasn't constantly picking up my mic but each time i talked it was just loud static sounds. resetting my PC didn't help and now i'm a bit clueless. i built my PC so could it be something i did wrong or is this something i can easily solve?

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

Headset mic not working

This might occur when some of the mic setting got corrupted.

I would suggest you to try running Recording audio troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Select Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Select Recording Audio under
  Sound and follow the on screen.
