  1. Update from 1803 to newer versions has failed for almost two years, eating my data

I have tried 27 times to update to either of the newer versions according to my update history.

    Edition: Windows 10 Pro

    Version: 1803

    Installed on 5/10/18

    OS Build: 17134.1345

Using Windows 10 Update Assistant took hours, and failed to install, giving me the BSOD stating, "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."

These are the three repeated error codes:

    Failed to install on ‎2/‎28/‎2020 - 0x8024000b

    Failed to install on ‎1/‎1/‎2020 - 0xc1900101

Last failed install attempt on ‎12/‎25/‎2019 - 0x80240034

I built this system myself, and have no issues other than this update issue.

    AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, 3.60 GHz

    16.0 GB installed RAM

    64-bit OS, x64-based processor

    Thanks for any advice/help.

    :)

    Windows 10 Pro 1709 update to 1803, 1809 or 1903?

In theory your current settings will be delaying updates to a point where there should not be any stability or quality issues. All being well you will have a years worth of quality issues in that version fixed.

    • If you want latest with potential teething troubles then go for 1903.
    • 1809 has been out for more than 6 months so there should no longer be any show-stopping bugs or errors, everything should just work
    • your current settings are postponing feature updates for 1 year and as a result you are offered 1803. This version should be solid, by now well tested and fairly mature.

The version number of 1803 x64 2019-07B suggests that it is downloading it with all relevant updates to July 2019, meaning you are getting all the fixes without the problems of a newer "feature" update such as 1809 or 1903.

If you want best stability and least chance of issues then let it install the version it is proposing.

If you want to live on the edge then go for something newer.

If your system is mission critical and you have no backups then you want stability. If you want features but can tolerate a bit of risk then you want the latest.

Unable to update Windows 10 Pro version 1709 to 1803

Have made several attempts to update Windows 10 version 1709 to the latest version 1803 and have not been successful.

I've done the following per some suggestions found online:

    • Updated drivers
    • Ran the Trouble Shooter for Windows 10 (Errors found were shown to be "Fixed" per the tool)
    • Unplugged the printer

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

    • 0xc1900101
    • 0x80070643

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.

    Thank you.

Update from 1803 to newer versions has failed for almost two years, eating my data

Update version 1803 (3) always fails with error 0x80240034

That error code means the download could not complete successfully....

In such cases, an in-place upgrade using an ISO made by Microsoft's Media Creation Tool should succeed where windows update fails. Note that the MCT now makes install media for the current version which is 1809. That should not be a problem and would be the version I'd use in your place (and am using on my PC). This tutorial explains the steps...

But if you really insist on upgrading to 1803 you'll need to use an 1803 ISO. This 3rd-party tool from Heidoc can generate a link to get one direct from Microsoft.
