  1. File Explorer "Documents" Stuck on File Type Filter

Recently, I filtered my Documents by Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation. I had initially done it by clicking on Type, a column, and checking "Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation". Now, whenever I click on the quick access link for Documents it has Documents automatically filtered by .ppt. Documents > Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation is what automatically occurs. I thought maybe the file path got messed up so I unpinned Documents from Quick Access and pinned Documents again without having the .ppt filter by accessing Documents through Local Disk C:. However, File Explorer still automatically filters Documents by .ppt. I don't know how to get rid of this. There's nothing for me to uncheck but it is bolded.

File Explorer - unable to filter by some headings (name, type, folder path)

File Explorer - unable to filter by some headings (name, type, folder path)

Searched the forums for hours and see that others have the same issue, but I didn't find any solution.

I want to find all files that were modified in the last year contained within a folder and all it's sub-folders. I want to then filter by folder path by unchecking the folders for which I do not want any search results returned. Then I want to sort by date.

File Explorer used to allow all this to be possible, but filtering doesn't seem to work anymore in Windows 10 (except filter by date, which does still work). Using "View", "Group by", is not a useful workaround in my case.

    Steps to recreate the problem:

    - open File Explorer

    - type "*" in the top right search box

    - list of files is returned

    - it is possible to filter by "date modified";
PROBLEM: it is not possible to filter by "name", "type", "folder path"

I tried the two suggested solutions and they did not work.

    Method 1: Run DISM

Method 2: Run System File Checker

As reported by others, occasionally "computing filters..." pops up when I click on the drop down arrow of one of the problematic headings, but not always, and it either closes within seconds or never finishes.

Here is a screenshot posted by somebody else asking the same question:

    Thanks for any further suggestions!

    Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134

    System model XPS 13 9360

    BIOS Dell Inc. 2.9.0, 7/9/2018

*NOTE: I'm very reluctant to update the BIOS because of problems I have with connecting to an external monitor and the current set up is actually working.

    Window 10 file explorer stuck

    Hi Deepika,

    Thanks on your help

I try all three suggestion but unfortunately the problem remain.

It is look the explorer stuck when I right clicking on file letter or try to past file.

    Some details on the steps:

Step 1: When the Task manager is open no Window Explorer task exist. Clicking on File Explorer under Start menu window, bring Window Explorer task. Than I End the task using task manager and reopen the task by Run New Task in the task manger. The Window
Explorer task is appeared in the Task manger and on the screen window. Right clicking on the disk letter the Explorer was stuck again.

Step 2: I run the checkdisk on disk C (contains the Window) without /f and get report all is OK

Step 3: I run the Memory diagnostic. After long waiting time a report OK is received.

Any other suggestion will be appreciate

    Thank

Cannot find Desktop Icon in File Explorer

Now that is interesting. If I do what you suggest, File Explorer Address bar changes to C:\Users\username\documents and the missing ICONS are there. But there is still not a "Desktop" folder.

Is this a step in the right direction?
