    Frequent Unexpected System Crashes

    Hello,

Last week, I built a desktop machine and have been experiencing frequent, unexpected system crashes. The monitor will go black and any audio will be 'frozen' for 2-5 seconds before the system automatically reboots no BSOD. These crashes occur during all activities, from internet browsing/game downloads, gaming, videos, and idling. Initially, the crashes were occurring every 15-20 minutes and after a GPU swap they are now occurring roughly every 2-3 hours. The longest period between crashes is roughly 6 hours, with the shortest being approximately 2 minutes.

    Here are the system specs:

    • Windows 10 Pro 1909, OS build 18363.720
    • AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • Corsair H150i Pro 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
    • Asus Tuf Gaming X570-Plus Wifi ATX AM4 Motherboard BIOS 1405
    • Original GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB Gaming OC
    • Replacement GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super latest driver: 445.75
    • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB 2 x 16 GB DDR4-3600 MHz Memory
    • HP EX950 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD
    • Corsair RM 750w 80+ Gold ATX PSU
    • Corsair Obsidian 500D RGB SE ATX Mid Tower Case
    • Acer Predator X34 3440x1440 120 Hz Monitor

After the initial series of crashes, I validated that the drivers for all hardware components listed above are up to date. I also reseated the GPU and RAM sticks.

When the crashes continued, I removed the GPU drivers using the DDU tool and reinstalled them via AMD's website. After the problem persisted, I wiped the M.2 and performed a clean Windows installation. However, the problem still persisted with the same frequency. After performing some research online, I was able to find a high volume of cases with similar symptoms reported from individuals utilizing AMD 5000 series GPUs. At this point, I replaced the 5700 XT with the 2070 Super detailed above wiped AMD GPU drivers via DDU. In addition, I have successfully booted from each memory stick, independently, and achieved a 100% pass on the MemTest program.

I have also reviewed the Event Viewer and there is a consistent error that appears see attached screenshot. However, I am not able to determine the root cause of the crash from this event. I have several .dmp files from recent crashes, however I do not see a way to post them in this message.

I am at my wit's end - any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide that would be helpful.

    Thanks you

    :)

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

  3. System restart at unexpected times without BSOD.

    Hello,

I'm using this OptiPlex 5055 Ryzen CPU desktop and have uploaded this system's specifications under the "2nd PC Spec" section of my profile.

This system often restarts itself at unexpected times, despite the fact that no resource intensive application is run on it (not even the Solitaire game in Windows 10!). Possibly the heaviest application that is run on this system is the Google Chrome Browser! Otherwise, its use is largely limited to the Microsoft Office suite.

I've disabled "Automatically restart" option under Advanced System Settings as follows:

    Frequent Unexpected System Crashes [IMG]

Despite this, I don't get the BSOD. The system simply restarts.

So the only option I could think of at my disposal was memory dumps (which thankfully are being created every time the system witnesses such restart!).

I used Nirsoft's BlueScreenView and got the following output:

    Frequent Unexpected System Crashes [IMG]

As you can see, the culprit seems to be ntoskernel.exe.

However, a little reading over the internet suggested related to ntoskernel crash suggested that this is likely to be a drivers issue. But to my disappointment, when I validated this PC's drivers' status with Dell Command Update application, the system already had all relevant drivers installed and updated to their latest versions by Dell's standards.

I also ran the Passmark's Memtest86 testing tool on this system and no problems were reported.

I've run out of ideas at this point so I decided to create this thread.

I ran the Beta Log collector tool and the zip file is attached for your reference (please see DESKTOP-2OOD0RP-(2019-04-16_19-01-26).zip).

    Kindly suggest possible issues/troubleshooting steps/solutions.

P.S.: I might be incorrect in posting this thread under the BSOD Crashes and Debugging Forum since this system isn't giving me an actual BSOD. So please let me know in case I migrate this thread to another forum.

Frequent BSOD issue Asus K53sm NVIDIA 630m Windows 10

I would guess that your GPU is faulty, the crashes that are most frequent seem related to the GPU.

I do have a suggestion, although this suggestion is more often seen with 0x9F crashes where drivers are in an inconsistent state for the OS.
Try to change the powerplan, standard there are following plans
    1. Powersaver,
    2. Balanced, standard selected,
    3. High performance
If you didn't change your power plan, you have balanced selected.
Select High performance and see if it makes a difference.
