Windows 10: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

Hopefully someone can point me towards a solution that will stick as this has been an ongoing issue for a while now and nothing i have tried has worked or has lasted.


The issue first started about 18 months ago on a few machines while we were running Windows 7 Clients and Windows Server 2008 R2. We then started to upgrade/ buy new machines with Windows 10 some of these machines have also started to have this issue, i have also since upgraded the Server to 2012 R2 and the problems continues, this is also starting to affect workstations that have never had this issue and especially in the current situation is causing massive problems when our staff are trying to work from home and you get this error when trying to Remote Desktop.


So this has affected Windows 7 and 10, Windows Server 2008 and 2012, New and Old / Upgraded Computers and Computers that have been working fine. I have tried to remove and re-add the computer to the Domain this works but the computers have then received the error again, i have tried to Reset the Computer account in the AD, i have tried to create new Computer's in the AD. I have also tried numerous PowerShell commands via the Local User and sometimes this works but again the error returns. Sometimes if you simply restart the computer enough times it will allow the user to sign in fine which is the confusing part.


This is very strange as it is slowly affecting more computers and nothing has changed between the Client and the AD from one login to the next however usually once the error starts it will persist, as mentioned this has covered multiple OS's and New and Old computers and it has also affected new Users that have been created in the AD.

Trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

We have an employee that reset the password on the front desk computer running Windows 10 by pressing ctrl-alt-delete, reset password. Once attempting to login with the new password the error message was displayed "Trust relationship between this workstation
and the primary domain failed." We were able to get on the computer by unplugging from the network, rebooting and using the old password to login. Once logged in how can we now reestablish the trust between this workstation and the domain? I have looked at
many fixes online but most of them are Windows 7 related and this machine was upgraded to 10. Our server is a small business 2011. Please help!

I want to identify issue using the logs available in workstation machine.
