  1. Changing my webcam focal length in Windows 10

I used to have a great driver for my Dell laptop webcam with backgrounds, autofocus, zoom, etc. When I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, Windows hijacked my Dell driver and replaced it with a very basic default webcam, with no settings at all. I know this camera hardware is HD and perfectly clear, but now I am permanently out of focus.

The Windows 10 default puts the focal point about 2 inches from the webcam. This gives Zoom and Skype friends a perfectly clear picture - but only of the tip of my nose. I don't seem to be able to reinstall the old Dell driver, nor is there another Dell driver for my laptop for Windows 10 that I can find. Other users say you can't fix the problem, just stop using the top quality built in camera and buy a cheap external webcam. Finding a webcam in Canada online or instore during the Coronavirus lockdown isn't possible, and I need remote meetings more than ever.

1 Is there a way to change the fixed focal length of the Dell Latitude E6530 webcam to be around 12 inches rather than 2 inches.

2 Is there a way to install different webcam software/drivers that will provide autofocus and the capabilities that the webcam has.

    :)

    Windows 10 webcam problem

The drivers for the Imaging devices, which include the webcam, are not displayed in the Device Manager. To resolve this problem, use the following steps:

    Restart your computer.

If the problem persists, continue using these steps.

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

If there is no Imaging devices category listed, select Action, then Scan for hardware changes.

Figure : Scan for hardware changes

If Device Manager does not recognize the webcam after the scan, use Microsoft System Restore to go back to a time when the webcam was working properly.

If problems persist, the webcam might have become unplugged internally, and the computer might require service to correct the issue.

    or

In Windows, search for and open Recovery Manager.

Select Reinstall drivers and/or applications, and then click Next when prompted.

Select the appropriate Software program (such as Cyberlink YouCam or MediaSmart Webcam), and select Install.

Figure : List of drivers to reinstall

If prompted, click Next to first uninstall the selected program.

The program uninstalls, and then reinstalls.
