Moving Windows OneNote local files out from a damaged machine

    Hi

I used to work on OneNote which come with Windows 10, but last week my device had big damage to the hardware.
The problem is that I have access to my computer files, but I don't know where or how I move the OneNote files to the new computer.

OBS: I did not synchronize all OneNote by OneDrive.

I need help with this issue, please.

  2. OneNote not usable on local account.

    Hello Gary,

Thank you for getting back to us with your response.

I would like to inform you that One Note is accessible through Local account. You can work with OneNote with out any issues. The only difference is that when you use OneNote from Local Account you can save the files and documents locally. You wont be able
to save it over cloud. With Microsoft Account you can save the files over cloud.

So I suggest you to try the steps which was provided in the earlier post and check if it helps.

Let us know the status of the issue. We will be gald to assist you further.

    Thank you.

Signing into Onenote app converts local account to microsoft account

    Steps:

    • Sign into a local account
    • Open the OneNote app (tablet not desktop app)
    • Sign in to this app with a Microsoft account
The local account is then converted into a Microsoft account with that identity.

This is wrong and unexpected behaviour as no indication is given that the sign in is for the whole of windows rather than just OneNote.

It is also hard to revert.

I am guessing that other apps may exhibit the same behaviour.

In fact I don't understand how an app (which is supposed to be sandboxed and secure) can change user account information.

Microsoft Windows Home Server Corrupts Files

Microsoft has warned Windows Home Server users not to edit files stored on their backup systems with several of its programs, including Vista Photo Gallery and Office's OneNote and Outlook, as well as files generated by popular finance software such as Quicken and QuickBooks. "When you use certain programs to edit files on a home computer that uses Windows Home Server, the files may become corrupted when you save them to the home server," Microsoft said in a support document posted last week. The document went on to list the software, which includes Windows Vista Photo Gallery, Windows Live Photo Gallery, OneNote 2003, OneNote 2007, Outlook 2007, Microsoft Money 2007 and SyncToy 2.0 Beta. Others programs, however, may also corrupt files stored on a home server powered by Microsoft's operating system. "Additionally, there have been customer reports of issues with Torrent applications, with Intuit Quicken and with QuickBooks program files," the document said. "Until an update for Windows Home Server is available, we recommend that [you] do not use the programs that are listed to save or to edit program-specific files that are stored on a Windows Home Server-based system."
