    Ctrl+C doesn't work in cmd.exe

    I can't cancel a process in cmd.exe by pressing Ctrl+C.

This problem happens for ANY process at all. Including Windows-own commands.

Relevant properties for cmd.exe: "Edit Options" all checked. This is the default, I believe.

I'm not sure when this started happening. A couple of days ago probably.

This happens regardless of whether I start cmd as Administrator or not.

    I'm on Windows 10 1909 build 18363.752 mainstream.

Good to know, when NOT running any program on the cmd, e.g. when the prompt is showing, Ctrl+C does break off, goes to a new line and present a new prompt, but it does NOT show the "^C" control character like it should, which probably indicates to where it's going wrong. However, I have no idea how to diagnose this.

Ctrl+C *does* appear to work in Powershell and WLS, but I prefer not to use that for various reasons. However, this does most likely rule out anything to do with hardware or drivers. So we can skip that.

My virusscanner reports no virusses of any kind, and `sfc /scannow` reports no problems.

    How to proceed?

    :)

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

    Thanks again!!

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

I ran SeaTools. These are the results:

Does it mean my HDD is useless?

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

    Thanks for your answer, ken!
I deleted all my data. I had have it backed up.

I did a clean installation using the windows media creation tool (usb option).

No, I didn`t. I thought a clean installation would solve the problem.

After posting my previous message, I did it.

After chkdsk, I close cmd and tried to boot and the laptop just turned it off. This morning I`ve restarted it and automatically windows did a repair. Windows has booted and it seems that the repair tool has removed chrome and acrobat pdf reader (the only two programs I had installed after reinstalling windows).

Now Windows is installing updates and restarting my lapop, I`m kind of frightened. I don`t want it to happen again. Anyhow, I want to know what has brought the issue

I`ve been looking for information about the error code at the end of the picture and I didn`t get anywhere.

    CTRL+C/X/V Not working Ctrl+C doesn't work in cmd.exe :(

Hi, I hope someone can help me out.

A few days ago, some of my keyboard shortcuts stopped working for me. As far as I know, the only shortcuts that refuse to work with me are:

    • ctrl + c
    • ctrl + x
    • ctrl + v
    • ctrl + z
    • ctrl + t (this one used to work until literally just now while I was testing it)
I don't think that this is a hardware issue because (oddly enough), the following keyboard shortcuts DO work.

    • ctrl + w
    • ctrl + n
    • ctrl + p
    • ctrl + d
I have already uninstalled my keyboard drivers and restarted my computer several times.

This problem affects me across Firefox, Chrome, Line...

The only thing of note that happened to me before this started happening is that Firefox updated and kicked my old data into a folder on my desktop.

I desperately hope that someone can help me out; my googling so far has been fruitless.

I am using an HP ENVY 15 Laptop...
