    Sound Driver Assistance


    Hello,


    I have an MSI GS75 Stealth laptop and I had a windows update occur last night. This morning, it was stuck on a light blue screen which showed the windows prompts date, time, cursor, etc. but wouldn't allow me to log in. After turning the laptop off and on, it finally returned to a normal home screen to which I could log in. The issue now is that after plugging in two separate pairs into the headphone jack, it recognizes that I plugged something in, but won't register the playback device in sounds. I've updated the Realtek driver, disabled it, enabled it, installed another windows update, restarted the laptop, and even checked "Show Disabled/Disconnected Devices" in the Sound menu.


    I'm hoping this is just a glitch after the Windows update but it seems as if I've tried every option provided to no result. Currently, I cannot play any sound from my headphones.


    I've attached some snips of the issue, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Sound drivers not working.

    Hi Josh,

    I suggest you follow the given steps and check if it helps:

    Step 1: I suggest you to run
    Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
    as it checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

    • Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
      Troubleshooting and select it.
    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
      Troubleshooting window.
    • Select the Hardware and Device
      options from the list.
    • Click Next to run the Hardware and Device
      Troubleshooter

    Step 2: I suggest you to refer to the below Microsoft help article, try the troubleshooting steps suggested and check if it helps.

    Fix sound problems

    Click on the drop down arrow beside Check Device Manager for different options to troubleshoot.

    Sound Quality

    One thing that sticks out from looking at your "My Computer" specs. You list "ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)" which suggests you do not have the correct sound hardware driver. Your motherboard has Realtek sound and the first step is to install the Realtek sound drivers. My ASUS also came with Sonic Studio 2 which is a sound enhancement package. Check the ASUS install disc to see if you have something similar.

    May not be a speaker problem.

    It's possible that your sound driver was turned off by a third-party application. To fix it, we suggest that you use the built-in Windows 10 audio troubleshooter by following these steps:

    • Click Start.
    • Type Troubleshoot and press Enter.
    • Click Playing Audio.
    • Click Run the troubleshooter.

    If in case the audio troubleshooter doesn't work, use the other steps in this
    article
    . Just click the drop-down arrow and select the other choices offered.

    Let us know if you're able to restore the sound on your computer after following these steps.
