Windows 10: New Dell server has a few sound issue.

I just purchased this refurbished Dell server with Windows 10 Pro installed. I have a slightly older monitor, so I had to use a Displayport to HDMI conversion cable to connect them together. Originally it didn't sound bad, although with this monitor does sound "tinney" even before I connected this system to it. Now with the volume at 100% on the system and video clips also at 100%, the volume is barely above a whisper.

The other issue I've had since day one, is the inability to plug headphones into the front of the case and have the monitor sound shut off automatically while being able to listen to my system using headphones. Suggestions?

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

I would suggest you to follow these steps and run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter:

• Type “Troubleshoot” without quotes in search and click on
  Troubleshooting in the results displayed on the left side of the screen.
• In the new window, click Hardware and Sound.
• In the list of options, click on Hardware and Devices.
• Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

• If troubleshooter doesn't fix issue uninstall and reinstall latest drivers from device manufacturer and check if the issue persist.

Sounds issues in Windows 10 (new Dell laptop)

I just got my new Dell Inspiron laptop, which includes the new Windows 10. The sound goes in and out while playing a video (such as Netflix). I've tried two different browsers and the Netflix app to see if it worked well on any of these. I also found some
information from Windows about changing the sound setting (tried it - and re-started laptop, just in case) and uninstalling and reinstalling the drive. Those didn't fix the issue. We also plugged in some external speakers through the headphone jack to make
sure it wasn't the speakers themselves. The sound going in and out still occurred - clearly not a hardware issue. Any one have any suggestions?
