  1. Is it safe to system restore?

I was messing around with a couple newly installed programs (Malewarebytes and VirtualBox) and I noticed my File Explorer was acting strangely. Simple tasks such as renaming folders on my desktop took a couple seconds to finalize, and deleting empty folders even opened a loading bar window...

Anyways, I got spooked so I decided to do a system restore to two days prior, before I installed the two programs. This didn't fix the issue. I tried rebuilding the index, and this seemed to help a little but didn't fully solve the issue either. Finally, after more research I found that clearing my file explorer history was all I needed to do - issue solved.

It has been a few days since the system restore, but I'm still feeling uneasy about it. At this point, I have made enough changes that I don't want to undo my system restore, plus I don't think that would make me feel any less uneasy.

    My questions are:

    1. Is it safe to do a system restore?
    2. What all does a system restore change? (i noticed that it uninstalled programs, deleted .exe files from my downloads folder, and undid changes I made to an .ini file...what else?)
    3. Bonus question - any downside to rebuilding the file explorer index?

Sorry if these questions seem trivial. I am a very anxious person about my computer and I am looking for some solace from these anxieties. I don't want to feel like reinstalling/resetting windows is necessary/beneficial because oh boy that would be a lot of work.

Your answers are greatly appreciated <3

  2. System Restore - Safe?

System restore works maybe 50% of the time.

It either fixes it, or breaks it.

    System Restore - Safe?

System restore will still leave a lot of your data on it, honestly a quick reinstall would be best. Shouldn't take that long.

Is it safe to system restore?

System Restore - System restore failed to extract the file ...... (0x8007005) error

    Hi Loucille,

One of the possible reasons why the error code 0x8007005 occurs when performing system restore is due to corrupted system files that caused software conflicts. Since you have tried several steps to resolve the issue, we recommend that you
perform a System Restore in safe mode. To boot your device in
safe mode kindly click on this link. This will start Windows in a basic state, using a limited
    set of files and drivers.

Once done, we suggest that you perform a system restore after booting in safe mode. System Restore will be able to revert your PC or laptop to their previous state, which can be used to repair and recover system malfunctions or issues. Restoring won’t affect
your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the Start button, and then select Control Panel.
    • Search Control Panel for Recovery.
    • Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
    • Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

If in case that the issue persists, we suggest that you run the System File Checker tool. This will be able
to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore it. We also suggest that you run the DISM command to repair the Windows image on your system. Follow the steps provided
on this link for the complete guide on how to use
    the tool.

Please post back with the result.
