  1. Windows sign in versus local host sign in?

I had an issue with my computer Alienware Area 51 R2 and the Dell support went into msconfig and de-selected all the start up except Microsoft to have a clean boot. When it re-booted it did not allow me to sign in with my PIN and it would not recognize my password. This went on for about 5-minutes. We tried a system restore but without a valid password it would not accept it.

I then tried my old password and I was signed into windows. So I tried to load OneNote to check some passwords and it would not load until I signed in. So it did not recognize my old password?

So at this point I went to msconfig and changed the boot to load everything and I re-booted and all was back to normal.

Can anyone explain this and how to fix it? I think it may be the cause of freezing or rebooting like a permissions error.

    :)

  2. "Sign in with local account" button is not working.

    Hi,

Failure to sign in to your local account can be related to how the user permission is configured on your device. To effectively assist you with your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

    • Which Windows build version is running on your device? Type winver
in the search box and press Enter to help you identify.
    • Have you made any recent changes on your device prior to your concern?

As an initial step, we suggest that you create a new user and check if you'll be able to sign in to your local account from there. To create a new user, you can follow the steps provided on this

    link
    .

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.

  3. App Store sign-in error, 0xD000000D

    Hi Suzanne,

There's a possibility that you are currently signed in on your computer using your local account. For us to sort this out, we suggest that you sign in with your Microsoft account instead. Follow these steps:

    • Open Settings > Accounts > Your email and accounts.
    • Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Once signed in with your Microsoft account on your computer, try signing into the Windows Store app.

    Update us with the result.

    Regards.

Windows sign in versus local host sign in?

    Unable to sign into Windows

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. What is the error you get while trying to sign in?
    2. When you say ‘0000’, are you referring to a PIN?
    3. Is it a local or Microsoft account, you use with Windows sign in?
    4. Do you see any other sign in options like password, fingerprint or facial recognition?
    5. Do you see any options on screen to reset your password?

If you are using the Microsoft account with Windows sign in, choose password option under sign in options and type in the Microsoft account password and let us know if it works.

Please get back to us with the information requested, so that we can suggest the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

    Regards,
