Graphics - Screen Freezing - Stumped

    W/10 ver 1909 build 18363.836
Install was from a w/7 upgrade but I opted to not keep any files.
Vishera 8 core H60 water cooled.
    Msi Am3+ 990fxa 18 gigs crucial 1866
Current gpu Radeon MSI Armor 8 gig rx 580 - former gpu rx 570 4 gig
    Main drive Adata su650
    Data / games drive W/D 1t.

Whats happening; Screen locks up tight when into games such as Anno 1800 - Wows. Cannot get to taskman only way out is hard reset. Graphics setting are typically high but not ultra. Tried disabling all advanced Radeon settings and no anti-aliasing problem persists.
Upgraded gpu, reinstalled drivers, problem persists.
All motherboard drivers are up to date.
Tried standard windows memory test no issues. chkdsk /f no errors.
Prime95 cpu stress test no errors.
Passmark memtest86 9hr stress test max contigous errors: 0.
msinfo32 - find problem devices bat test result: No Problem devices found.

I've ruled out the gpu, btw gpu-z stats show a mild to medium use indicating not an overheat issue. Core temp monitor also shows similar stats. Although Freq on core 0 (1) normally shows 4699.04 (199.96 x 23.5) sometimes drops to about 1/2 that for split second. But that is a rarity and has occurred without heavy gaming and there where no lock ups. I'm not over clocking.
Ok so it's not a new screaming Ryzen build but I'm not ready to give up on it. I just can't find the problem. I even tried putting the GPU in the 2nd pcie x16 slot, problem persists.
Perhaps a communication - hardware failure on the motherboard? I could live with replacing that but AM3+ mb's that support 220watt cpu's are not exactly easy to find anymore. Another option I've considered is an pcie adaptor card & a nvme ssd and reinstall windows, but will a clean install take my old 7 key. Then again if it's a hardware / mb issue I could run into the same issue, safer bet would be just use the existing ssd, ... or I could just start drinking more.
Any thoughts or advice would be appriciated.

    :)

  2. Screen Freezing up

Andre, thanks for your suggestions. I performed all steps as you listed and it appears that there were

some problems that have been corrected. I will let you know in a day or so if the "freeze" problem

occurs again. Many thanks for your help --- this took longer than I expected!

Overclocking / Undervolting guide for Vega 56 or 64?

    Here's a quick laundry list:

List of software to use for overclocking and testing
    Examples:
Wattman (and how to find and use it, like an overview, including profiles)
Unigine Valley or Heaven (use this for quick testing while changing settings in Wattman and checking for stability / artifacts) ...just suggesting this
How to monitor cores / mem speeds and temps during testing (I've seen screen overlays, and others using GPUz)

    Step-by step overclocking in Wattman
    Fan speeds
    Power limit
    Temp limit
    Voltages

    graphics card problems

    Hi,

Your computer makes a noise or beeps from your internal speaker because it failed to detect the graphics card. What we can suggest is for you to try cleaning your graphics card with a pencil eraser. Here are the steps below:

    • Turn your computer off.
    • Pull out your video/graphics card.
    • Rubbed the cold contacts with soft pencil eraser.
    • Connect your video/graphics card back to the computer.
Kindly note that this is just a temporary fix. If the case still continues, I suggest that you contact your graphics card's manufacturer.

Let us know how it goes.
