  1. Windows 10 server appears hung/asleep until user RDCs into the server

    Background

I have ten Windows 10 servers which are used to run regression scripts 24/7. There is another machine which has a controller software which sends scripts to be executed to the 10 servers. When a regression run starts the following happens

1 The controller copies the build to the 10 servers using robocopy

2 After all the 10 build copies are successful, scripts are sent to each server to be executed

3 Once a script finishes execution on a server, the next script is sent to the server.

    Problem

Some of the servers seem to go into a sleep/hung state unless someone is remotely connected via RDC. I have done the following

1 Before a run is started, logout from all remote connections

2 Wait for 5-10 minutes and start the run

3 The build copy mentioned above starts for few machines. For the others it does not. I verify this from the logs on the controller

4 The build copy usually takes about 10 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, I login to the machines which have issues build copy not happening via RDC

5 The moment I login, the build copy to these machines also starts and finishes in 10 minutes

6 For now, I am logged into all the machines 24/7

    What I have tried

I assumed this could be a Power setting problem. So I have made the following changes

1 Turn off hard disk after to never

    2 Sleep after to never

3 Hibernate after to never Some machines don't have this option. I tried the steps in this link Windows 10 Hibernation not available but got a "firmware does not support this option" error on the servers. The machines that have the hang problem don't have this setting

I am not sure what other setting to change. Hoping someone has faced this problem and will be able to provide a solution

    :)

  2. Scanned files appear on server

    Hi,

I realize that scanned files do not appear on the client computer instantly even though they appear on the server. I will try to help you with this issue.

Please answer the question to get more clarity on this issue:

    • Is the server PC and this computer on a Domain Network?

If the computer is part of a Domain Network, then suggest you to post this question in the TechNet Forum

Technet forums - Windows 10 IT Pro

    Thank you.

MoveSecurityAttributes for Server 2016 with Windows 10 users

I've seen some discussion regarding the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" MoveSecurityAttributes.

My site ran into this issue recently after a comprehensive review of the File server and how it was being used. It appears that once a user moved a file or folder within the same volume then the MoveSecurityAttributes setting was necessary to affect the
behavior. This situation is discussed here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...dled-when-you-copy-and-move-files-and-folders

though this article appears out of date, as at the time I am writing this.

Anyway, if you want your users to drag and drop or otherwise move files within a volume and have the files take on the security profile of the destination folder then this key is necessary. Our site runs Windows Server 2016 with users working on Windows
10 workstations. I added the registry key onto the file server (it is not there by default), and tried things out. At first, it did not work. So the article quoted above has some flaws. The way to get this working relies on additional pieces of information.
If you want the object to inherit the permissions from the parent folder:

    1. Perform these steps from the Windows 2016 File Server. Do not do this on the user workstation.
    2. Add the key "MoveSecurityAttributes" to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" This sub-key is a DWORD type.
    3. The value should be "0" if you want the moved object to inherit the permissions from the parent destination folder.
    4. Reboot your file server.
    5. Test.

This information is as-is (in other words, this worked for us) so if someone uses it and verifies then that would be great.
