Windows 10: Webcam disabled with a new monitor

Hi - my usb webcam was working fine, but now I've added a new monitor with no built in webcam and now I can't access the webcam. It's getting power lights are on and the driver is up to date, but when I try to access it using camera or any other app I get the attached error - "it looks like another app is attempting to access the camera".


I'm on Windows 10 Home edition. Everything looks fine in device manager etc.

Setting up a webcam as the camera default

Method 1: If the Webcam is listed under Devices and printers, please follow the steps.

a. Press Windows key + R

b. Type: control printers

c. Hit Enter

d. Check if the Logitech webcam is listed.

e. Right click on Logitech webcam.

f. Click on Set this device as default.

Follow method 2 if webcam is not listed.

Method 2: What best we can do is we can disable the Internal webcam. You will be able to enable the webcam anytime you want.

Please follow the steps to disable HP Envy Webcam.

a. Press Windows + X, click Device Manager.

b. Click Imaging devices.

c. Right click on webcam.

d. Click Disable.

Problems with new webcam

If you are still having issues using your new webcam after installing it, please try accessing it via the
Devices and Printers list in your computer's Control Panel.

Here's how:

1. Click on the Start menu and search for Control Panel.
2. Launch the Control Panel.
3. Select Hardware and Sound.
4. Select Devices and Printers.
5. Double-click on the Camera/Webcam icon that you have just installed. Usually, it will have its name displayed.

If you still cannot use your webcam after following the mentioned steps, please get in touch with its manufacturer for further assistance.
