Windows 10: "Undoing Changes" at end of update and boots back into old version

Hello

I'm running version 1809 of Windows 10, and when I try to update to the latest version, either with the built-in Windows Update or with the Update Assistant I downloaded from Microsoft, I get the same error at the end of the update each time, i.e "Undoing changes made to your computer"


I then boot back up into Windows, and my Windows Update tell me

1."You're up to date"

2.Under the "Check for Updates" button a paragraph that says "You're currently running a version of Windows that's nearing the end of service. We recommend you update....etc"


I would leave it as is for now, but I think the update process messed with my sound settings. I have two applications, Adobe Premiere and Ableton Live that can't seem to play audio through the speakers that are assigned to it. Other apps don't have this problem, but this issue started happening after the first failed update.


What can I do?

In order to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps, pleas reply with the details requested below:

• Do you receive any error message after Windows update?
  
• May I know after which update do you see this message?
  
• When you say, “this message appear about half and hour" does the computer boot to the desktop?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  

If the computer doesn’t boot to the Desktop, I would suggest you to refer the suggestions provided by DaveM121 replied on April 7, 2019 in the thread

'Undoing changes made to your computer' in Windows 10.



If you are able to boot the computer to the Desktop, I would suggest you to run the

Windows Update Troubleshooter and see if that helps.



If the issue persists, I would suggest you to reset Windows Update components. Kindly refer the article by Sumit on

How to:Reset Windows update components in Windows.



You may also want to refer the steps mentioned in the article
Troubleshoot problems updating Windows 10.



Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost. Also, the last step in the article
talks about Clean installation, please do not perform a clean installation of Windows.

Changing boot hdd

I downloaded PartitionMagic8.0, but the partition i want to make is not bootable.
So the system boots from the old, loud hdd, and when i unplug the old, it doesnt boot.
Any advice or suggestions how to change boot hdd without reinstalling Winxp?

i followed the steps as suggested but it failed again and Undid the update

Attached is the screenshot of what I got when I booted back into windows

btw i just checked and i have 24.5gb free on the C drive

I will use mini partition tool to increase this to over 30 if we think that will help
