Windows 10: Can't Unlock Child Account on First Login

I am UNBELIEVABLY frustrated with the new account tools for Windows 10. I have created a child account. This required me to create an outlook email. I see no reason why this should be necessary, I have no interest in any of the features syncing things like screen time between devices. The lack of a completely local option is extremely frustrating.


The child's screen name now shows up on the opening unlock screen after logout or restart, which is great. I can click on it, and it just says "login". I clock that and it brings up an option to "unlock account", and asks for a user name and a password.


I have tried every variation of my user name and password, his user name and password, even my old passwords, and no matter what I do it tells me I have the wrong password. Moreover, I cannot go back to my own login without restarting TWICE.


Unbelievably infuriating behavior for an operating system that I otherwise quite like. This is just the sort of backwards engineering in pursuit of some corporate goal that makes people abandon an operating system.


***edit: of note, I am within the screen time limits for the child, I can see no reason why I can't log in.

Child account

I did set up a Child account, I did fallow all the steps window ask, the account say that the child is in the family, when I tried to log, give me the message "The Profile Service service Failed The Sign-in. User Profile cannot be loaded".

Answering your questions:

• Did you make any changes to the child account prior to the issue? No, I did not make any changes.
• Since when you are facing this issue? Right from the start. I never got to login.
• Are you able to login with other child accounts on the computer? No

I suggest you to restart the computer once and check if you are able to login to the computer. I did, the same problem, I do not have any problem with my account or my wife.

Child Account Get Greyed Out

Thanks for the suggestion, but I did the following instead.

I have another laptop, 2 weeks old, with Windows 10 Home on it.

On that one, I tried the same steps with the child account, and got the exact same results.
