Windows 10: Windows latest update deleted my files on the desktop

I had videos and photos on the desktop for a long time and they disappeared after the update in May. I remember some error message popping up that I was too much in a hurry to fully pay attention to . I believe it was something about signing into my microsoft account even though I am signed into my computer. I must have clicked something that made it sign me out of whatever account it was and continued using my computer just fine. The files are gone though. I am using Stellar recovery however it is estimating 72 hours and I just don't have time for that. Any possible solutions from the community would be grateful for.



I have tried many methods from the internet that I cannot remember but will remember if they are mentioned by any of you. I can say that I have tried the basic methods, probably most of them on the internet but you never know. I usually search on my own for days before reaching out on a forum and I've got more computer knowledge than the average person because I had spent time with Linux before. Linux offers many errors for hours of sleuthing, if you didn't get it.

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

Cant Delete Files From Desktop

Well, ran into a weird bug with vista, for some reason i cant delete files from desktop, this normaly happens to .exe files, the ONLY fix seems to be to KILL explorer.exe, and delete the file, then restat explorer, anybody got any idea why this happens?

 

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
