Windows 10 Updates alter / remove partition...

    Hello,

Older Toshiba Satellite. Install Windows 10 from CD, all is well. Get mom set up, etc. Then start Windows 10 updates, through Windows Update, and then the Windows Update Advisor. After the update are installed, and the system restarts to finish, the boot drive "disappears". During boot, system flashes, "Boot Failure. T1-MX...." Then tries to boot to the Windows 10 CD again. There, it says, "Windows is doing an upgrade, press yes to continue, or No, to do a clean install."

If I go to the Repair items, nothing works. Startup Repair returns with "Windows cannot do repair, view srt log...."

All the diagnostics say the "Drive is healthy" and this started with the 1903 update. But I got it to boot lucky try? and it said had to revert, so system worked. But, could never update to the latest versions.

Also, I created a fresh Install USB with the Windows Media Creation Tool, that just restarts the computer, no feedback. Then it just keeps restarting the computer, every time it tries to boot from that USB Win Install...

Could the drive be going bad, and that is why this is happening ?

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Windows 10 Updates alter / remove partition...

    Download Windows 10 TH/RS

For the convenience of not having to use the installation media for startup repairs. But you should be able to use your installation media to do whatever the recovery partition does(including startup repairs). AFAIK. I could be wrong about that though.
I'm not sure if I follow you there. But if you clean install Windows 10 there will be at least 3 partitions.
    • (EFI System Partition)
    • (Primary Partition)
    • (Recovery/OEM Partition)
If you install from an OEM installation media there might(should?) be 4 partitions. Since there might(should?) be a Recovery partition and an OEM partition.
