  1. Iconsistent THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD

    The Problem:

I have an Acer Aspire A515-41G-13U1 an awful laptop that I bought a little over a year ago. It's always had problems with blue screens from removing the charger cable to just playing a game and I have never managed to solve them, not even after sending it to warranty.

It seems to happen randomly whenever I'm using an application that uses the discrete graphics card a Radeon RX540, and doesn't seem to be related to either time, temperature, clock or usage.

    The Specs:

    Processor: AMD A12 @ 2.7GHz

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon R7, 2GB shared memory

Discrete Graphics: AMD Radeon RX540, 2GB shared memory

Hard Drive: WD 1TB, 42.6% free space super slow bench, max speed is lower than the expected minimumMemory: 8 GB SODIMM @ 933MHz

Primary Display External: 1080p @ 60Hz NOTE: The presence of an external display does NOT affect the bug

    Secondary Display Lid: 768p @ 60Hz

    What I've Tried:

    • Uninstalling the drivers that came with the laptop and installing the default drivers through Device Manager, results in the same bug
    • Installing AMD's Adrenalin software the latest drivers, results in the same bug
    • Limitting CPU usage to curb thermals I even opened it up to clean out the dust, which wasn't even that much
    • Lowering graphical quality in games to reduce GPU usage
    • Setting my energy plan to "Maximize Performance" in the GPU section to make sure the discrete graphics weren't being hot-swapped
    • Openning the MEMORY.DMP file in Visual Studio to see what I could make of it, resulted in an exception when trying to load it
    • Created a restore point and tried to use Driver Verifier, which resulted in Windows being unable to load due to SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bugchecks

    Latest Bugcheck Info:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000ea 0xffffc40937aac440, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000. A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 3710d359-704c-4180-a78e-9928ed642428.

    Finally:

I want to be able to use the discrete graphics in this laptop, since it's basically what I paid for. It wasn't a cheap laptop and the frankly pathetic quality of the rest of the components makes it worse than something that was OK-ish in the early 2000's. Its only saving grace is its GPU, which is actually pretty good if you ignore the awful bottlenecks from the APU and HD, so a solution like "Just don't use/disable the discrete graphics" is to me the same as "The computer is dead, just buy a new one"

I understand that this might be a problem better suited for Acer or AMD to solve, but I really didn't know where else to ask, and since posts here actually get some traction I thought "Hey, why not?"

Also, I have been trying to solve this issue through my own research for almost six months now, and this post is an admission of failure. I hope someone can help me with this.

    Thank you for your time!

    :)

    Bsod - thread_stuck_in_device_driver

It's been a while since I've posted to the forums, where fortunately I haven't had issues with my old build.

Unfortunately, on this Ryzen 5 build (Windows 10, Version 1909, OS Build 18363.752), we've been getting a lot of Windows 10 freezing, along with too many too count BSOD with the THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER message.

Below are both the system info and V2 dump:

    • Ryzen5BSOD-SystemInfo.zip
    • RYZEN5-(2020-04-08_19-22-00).zip

    BSOD - Google Drive

    Many thanks in advance.

  3. THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER - Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    • Do let us know if the issue is confined only while accessing the game?

The THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER bug indicates that a thread in a device driver is endlessly spinning. A device driver is spinning in an infinite loop, most likely waiting for hardware to become idle. This usually indicates problem with the hardware itself,
or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Frequently, this is the result of a bad video card or a bad display driver.

I suggest you to follow the below steps.

    Update the display driver

Steps to update the drivers for the Display Adapter.

    • Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
    • Select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display Adapter.
    • Right click on the
      Display Adapter
and click on Update Driver Software.

Refer to the below article by Andre Da Costa to install the drivers manually on your device.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of this issue for further assistance.

    Iconsistent THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD

    Thread_stuck_in_device_driver bsod

    Hi.

I got this THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD and it happens at least twice a month.

I ran the BlueScreenView application and it shows:

    Iconsistent THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD [IMG]

    Dump file is also attached.

I'm running not the latest AMD drivers for a reason. The latest drivers remove support from AMD Mantle API, which I need for gaming, as DirectX causing a crash.
Example: Playing Battlefield 4, if I use thermal optics the game will crash when using DirectX. I was never able to solve this problem since it was introduced in 2015.

I'm not sure if the problem is with the AMD driver, or the directX.
I have the latest Win10 build.

The action I did 1 second before the BSOD:
My Spotify app was already loaded. I simply brought it to the foreground and clicked on a playlist and then BSOD happened.

Is there a way to solve this without updating the AMD driver? (I doubt it would help anyway)
