  1. Disabling the startup password is a pain

Hi there. Please help me if you can. Or if you wish to relate a similar frustration, let's hear it.
Please scroll to "The question/TL;DR" if you don't want details.
I have a preference for not using a password or a pin to start Windows. I prefer pressing the power button and having the system boot without any added steps. In my case, a laptop connected to another screen, it won't use that screen until I put in a password. A pain. I am the only user, therefore I want an auto sign in, not an autocomplete and confirm. I want to skip the login screen altogether, as it usually does. With my current setup, physically, that unwanted login screen changes a lot for me.
Please excuse my annoyed tone. You know that feeling of wanting to tear a device from it's wires and introduce it to the pavement? That's little ol' me right now.

    The series of events:

This morning, Windows decided to force the password and PIN system on me. And the fingerprint. It's turned into a garbage fire of a situation.

Go into Sign-In options and disable the PIN. Done. Disable fingies. Done. No disable password option, only change? OK, let's take a look in the Microsoft account, online.

Go passwordless? Yes. Download the Microsoft Authenticator? Kay. Put in your phone number like at original login? K. Put in last 4 digits of phone number now. K. Now go into the authenticator. Send code to this phone number? K. Is this your number? Yeah. With these last 4 digits? Yeah. This device is in fact your phone with this number, the one you've been confirming? YES. Need any help - Just Use Bing! NO.

"Great, from now on, you won't need a password, just check your phone and enter this random code every time you wish to log in!" It's more complex than my password and PIN combined, and it's the equivalent nonsense I'm trying to get away from.

Looking elsewhere for solutions. Okay, I can instead use a local account, which is like identical to the other, minus functionality. Okay, fine, I don't use OneDrive (consciously, at least) or have an XBox. I do use Outlook, though, and that seems to be connected to everything as well. In fact, it's linked to your Microsoft Account, the one you're mad at and trying not to use just so you can skip the login, which should be an option anyway.
To be more specific, I use the Outlook App, because for work I have to manage a bunch of accounts and it's easier outside of a browser. The app, like it's been doing for months, will, every few days, ask to confirm my Microsoft account password. The one I try to avoid using in a non-existent startup login. The only workaround to keep the Outlook App logged in is to have logged in to Win10 with the non-local account, which then forces the startup login nonsense all over again.
I'm usually quite good at finding solutions, but it's been a mess, and Reddit rules for this, so I'm counting on you guys.

    The question / TL;DR:

Can I convince Windows to skip the startup login + enter password screen altogether while using a non-local Microsoft account? In other words, an Auto Sign-In? Thanks a bunch, in advance.

  2. Windows Startup password

Is it possible to remove a startup password without being able to log into the system? A friend's laptop just prompt her today for a password that she never enabled. Now, she does have a standard user account password, but that doesn't work for the startup password. She had the computer for about a year now and it has never asked for a startup password until today.

I tried to use Hiren Boot CD to run a diagnostic on the laptop, but it has a bsod. Windows 10 normal boot crashes as well

  3. Password At Startup

    Hello Charles,

Providing your credentials at Windows startup is supposed to be required. If it is not prompting you, it is possible that it had been disabled. Follow the steps to enable the required password at Windows startup:

    • Type netplwiz in Search.
    • Click netplwiz run command.
    • Enter your administrator credentials if prompted.
    • Check the box beside Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.
    • Hit Apply.
    • Enter the credentials you will be using to sign in to your Windows 10.
    • Click OK.
    • Click OK to save the changes.

Let us know if you need additional assistance.
