  1. display settings on less than maximum gives a smaller screen instead of a more blurry one

    Hi,

i have a problem on my dell laptop that runs on windows 10,

the laptop has a screen with a 3840x2160 resolution.

i have a problem whenever i try to use a display resolution setting that is smaller then this setting.

especially for some older games and some engineering/education software i would like to use a smaller resolution because 3840x2160 is not supported. lets say i try to halve the resolution to 1920x1080, i would expect the screen to become more blurry, but stay full screen.

That is not what happens though, the computer just uses the inner halve of the pixels and creates a black box around it.

i've shown a extreme example in the attached picture, but this happens in a less extreme manner on more modern software as well. It does not matter if the display setting is changed through the settings of a game or through the windows settings.display settings on less than maximum gives a smaller screen instead of a more blurry one [IMG]
I hope someone can help with this.

    thanks

    :)

  2. screen display

    Hi William,

It is important that you have the correct screen display and resolution. We suggest that you perform the following steps to reset the monitor settings:

    • Boot your computer in
      safe mode
      .
    • Once in safe mode, right-click the desktop > Screen Resolution.
    • Change the display settings back to the original configuration.
    • Restart your computer.

Feel free to update us on the result.

    Hello JerryXia1,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you are facing issues with the screen resolution, I would suggest you to change the display settings.

    Method 1: Change screen resolution

    1. Open Start, select Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.
    2. Under Resolution, select a new value. We suggest you stick with the resolution marked “(Recommended) ”

    Method 2: Update Display drivers

    Blurry monitors

    Hello Sheldon,

I'd follow what Greg posted, in addition to some of the other suggestions listed here. All are some great ideas and steps to take. In addition you can callibrate your display

    1. Use the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut to open the Settings app.
    2. Click Display.
    3. Click the Advanced display settings link.
    4. Make sure you're using the Recommended screen resolution for your display, and click the Color calibration link to launch the utility.
