Windows 10: Can't update Xbox One controller driver

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my Xbox One controller connecting specifically to my desktop PC for some reason.

Through process of elimination I've been able to narrow it down to being a driver issue (Windows sees the device when connected via Bluetooth, USB, or MS Xbox One adapter) but it never properly syncs to show in games, or even the Xbox accessories app.

I also managed to connect it without issue to my laptop, so the controller itself works fine.

When I attempt to update the driver as consistently recommended by similar posts I've Googled, I receive the following error:

Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them

I have no idea what to do next as nothing seems to resolve the issue, so I'm hoping you guys might have some ideas.

Xbox One controller being recognized as a 360 Controller

There are several reasons why your Xbox One controller is detected as an Xbox 360 controller by your PC. It is possible that the controller is not updated or if you previously used an Xbox 360 controller on the PC, it is still detecting its drivers instead
of the Xbox One controller drivers. To properly isolate your concern, please clarify the following information:

• Have you used an Xbox 360 controller on the same computer before?
• Does the error message occur on all of the games that you play?
• Have you tried to update the controller?
• Are you using an Xbox One Elite controller?

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• Is there any symbol on Coprecessor driver?

Refer to the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on
Enter Key.

3. Expand other devices.

4. Right click on Coprecessor driver, click on update driver software.

5. Try to brows my computer for driver support.

5. Then select the available drivers from the list.

Step 2; I recommend you to check for Xbox controller in Universal Serial Bus Controller under Device Manager. Check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and try to update all the drivers in the list.

4. Right click on the xbox controller driver and click on Update driver software.
