  1. Recovery of the deleted In-Built Administrator.

    Hi

I wanted to change my user profile folder name 'current_name' to 'new_name' as the current_name was a complex and ugly name. I followed a youtube video to change the name by activating the built-in Administrator by typing

    net user Administrator /active:yes

    in CMD in administrator mode

and so on. The method failed in changing the name. I didn't had the idea of activating and deactivating of built-in Administrator account. So I thought that this is just another administrator account and wanted to delete it. I tried several methods by going to control panel, settings run command etc to delete the account. No method found. I followed a method from the internet and went to Win+R

    regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SAM>SAM>Domains>Account>Users>Administrator

Right click on the administrator and deleted the administrator.

And poof, the administrator is gone. Now I realized that there was no need to delete it and just deactivating by

    net user administrator /active:no

in CMD was enough. If I now run

    net user

    the CMD returned

    User accounts for \\LAPTOP-'MMMMM'

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DefaultAccount Guest user name

    user name WDAGUtilityAccount

    The command completed successfully.

in CMD, I can only see other normal administrator accounts but not 'Administrator' account. I now got to know there is a special type of built-in Administrator account apart from normal administrator accounts. I don't why but I still CAN open cmd, powershell as 'Run as Administrator'. But when I run CMD as administrator and typed

    net user Administrator /active:yes

    the CMD returns

The user name could not be found

But now I want the Administrator account back!

I checked another method where it asked to boot the computer and activate the Administrator. But I do not want to stuck in this chain of problems any longer before I do something that I don't know. I learnt my lesson to not to mess with system administration.

I prefer answer in simple terms. Thank you!

    :)

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
