Windows 10: Microphone on Dell Latitude is not working

Today I tried to use Zoom for the first time. Unfortunately, the microphone on my computer does not appear to be working. I am not muted. I have used zoom many times on other computers. Zoom is unable to find the internal microphone on the computer. Not sure why. This never happened when I used zoom on other computers.

Built in microphone not working

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

Built in microphone not working after Windows 10 update

I spent 75 minutes in video chat with helpful person at Microsoft and they tried many different things and could not solve the problem of the built-in microphone showing up as "Not Plugged In".

After ending the Windows chat, I went to the Dell webpage. It turns out that my Dell Latitude E5420, circa 2012, is not on the list of PCs that Dell lists as compatible with Windows 10, so i guess I need to buy an external microphone in order to Skype.
The Latitude models starting with R5430 are compatible.

Or I could roll back the upgrade to a restore point.

It would have been most helpful if Microsoft had urged me to check with my hardware vendor before upgrading.
