How-to disable Modern Standby in Windows 10 May 2020 update?

good old registry hack does not work anymore:
    1 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power] CsEnabled=0
    2 deleted [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\ModernSleep]
PC still uses "Standby S0 Low Power Idle Network Connected" and it makes a lot of problems

  2. Is there any OS function that let us check system is going to enter modern standby?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Windows 10 Modern Standby (Modern Standby) expands the Windows 8.1 Connected Standby power model. Connected Standby, and consequently Modern Standby, enable an instant on / instant off user experience, similar to smartphone power models. Just like
the phone, the S0 low power idle model enables the system to stay up-to-date whenever a suitable network is available.

We would suggest you to refer these articles for additional information:

However, as you are into software development. Let me point you in the right direction, where you would get the appropriate help for this issue. I would suggest you to post your query in
MSDN forums, where we have experts and support professionals
who are well equipped with the knowledge on Modern Standby to assist you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Lenovo C940 - Troublesome in Modern Standby Mode

    Hi all.

    Ongoing troublesome Lenovo C940 here.

Latest primary symptoms: In modern standby mode, various background processes are incredibly active. This means, maybe 30%-50% of the time, I come back to a very warm laptop, or a hot, dead battery if it decides to do this while unplugged/in a bag.

Investigations: My main investigative work into this problem has been SleepStudy reports. When I do come back to the computer and it's warm, I produce a sleep study report to investigate. No two occasions show the same cause of the high activity though. I've attached a few recent sleepstudy reports for someone to review and help troubleshoot. You'll note the red colour-coded Modern Standby states.

I've already had the motherboard replaced for other waking-from-sleep problems (maybe related, maybe not); that didn't change anything.
I repair-installed the OS, which changed the problem to primarily be high activity in Modern Standby mode, resulting in frequently recurring BSOD problems -- especially BSOD while in Modern Standby mode.
Then I reinstalled the OS twice (reformatting both times), once using the Microsoft-sourced Windows 10 1909, and then subsequently using the Windows 10 sourced from Lenovo specifically meant for the C940. Both reinstalls resulted in the same high-activity during Modern Standby, as well as causing the fingerprint reader and webcam to stop being usable; the fingerprint and webcam just suddenly started working today though, with absolutely no change to anything, as far as I can tell...

Therefore, just reiterating, the PRIMARY remaining problem is this high activity in modern standby. Lenovo have told me that I'm not supposed to leave a laptop in this mode unattended, and that high activity in this mode is normal; even that draining 79% of the battery in Modern Standby mode for 25 hours is fine...

Windows Version: 10.0.18363 and just installing KB4532695 in the background.

Please, if there is anything else I can do to get some support, let me know *Confused Do you need other logs, or anything else?

Another instance, with another example of a different source of the power drain in Modern Sleep mode.

Can anyone help? What else do I need to share?

How-to disable Modern Standby in Windows 10 May 2020 update?

    Can't enable Modern Standby

You need an exclusively UEFI PC (without Legacy support) for Modern/Connected, at least it's what I've heard. I guess if that Z390 doesn't have it, I am not really expecting any consumer desktops to implement it, I assume it would require manufacturers to kinda rewrite their BIOS. It is also indirectly suggested on Anandtech that the feature depends on the onboard WiFi:

Personally I love my Ethernet cables and 1Gbit speeds, and WiFi would be the last thing I'd do to my PC, but I would like to test this feature when I buy a new PC, since Z370 is clearly out of question. Considering that Z390 basically has onboard WiFi and Z370 doesn't , it further solidifies this as a potential WiFi only feature. Maybe it's possible for the PC to switch to WiFi for Connected Standby and then back to wire after it wakes up? That would be nice.

    Edit: there's also this:
"Modern Standby is only available on some SoC systems. When it's supported, the system does not support S1-S3."

Yeah... S3 is the "normal" standby. So if your firmware manufacturer supports that, it's bye-bye Modern? Ouch.
